How Often Did Your Members of Congress Vote with Bush?

by Tula Connell, Oct 13, 2006

Video: “You get me started on Bush, you need way more film in that camera.”

These two members of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) in Philadelphia aren’t the only U.S. workers who say they got the shaft from six years of the Bush administration’s give-to-the-rich, take-from-the-middle-class policies.

Just as bad, their senator, Rick Santorum, voted 95.59 percent of the time with Bush during the 2005–2006 session of Congress. Santorum’s votes with Bush—and all members of Congress—now are ranked at the Hill Monitor, where you can see how often—or not—your lawmakers voted with an administration that makes handouts to Big Business and the wealthy a top priority.

In Pennsylvania, working families have a candidate for Senate they can support: Bob Casey. The state secretary of the treasury supports a minimum wage increase and prevailing wage laws that guarantee a fair wage. He opposes unfair trade agreements like the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) that send our jobs overseas.

As senator, Santorum tried to eliminate the 40-hour workweek and cut overtime pay and opposed creating new jobs protected by prevailing wages.

In addition to checking out the Bush voting record of your members of Congress here, check the AFL-CIO’s Congressional Voting Record site to see how often—or not—your representatives and senators voted for working family issues.

And don’t forget to check out the AFL-CIO Political Action Center at www.votenov7.org, where you can register to vote, learn about working family issues and download candidate comparison fliers.

If you’re not a union member, join Working America, the AFL-CIO community affiliate, and join the fight for good jobs, affordable health care, quality education and secure retirements.

As one TWU member says about Bush:

He gave working people nothing. He gave us nothing.
