by James Parks, Feb 21, 2007

Where do the Democratic candidates for president stand on issues that affect working families? You can see and hear them answer questions that are on the minds of America’s workers in a televised forum sponsored by AFSCME.

More than 500 AFSCME members and retirees will attend the forum in Carson City, Nev. The forum will be moderated by ABC commentator George Stephanopoulos and will include Sens. Joseph Biden (Del.), Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.), Christopher Dodd (Conn.), former Sens. John Edwards (N.C.) and Mike Gravel (Alaska), Rep. Dennis Kucinich (Ohio), Gov. Bill Richardson (N.M.) and former Gov. Tom Vilsack (Iowa). The other announced candidate, Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.), is in Iowa today.

AFSCME members and retirees from Nevada will ask the candidates where they stand on today’s pressing issues:

  • Will they pledge to support a vibrant public-sector workforce?
  • What will they do to protect Social Security and ensure that every American retires in dignity?
  • How will they make college more affordable for poor and middle-class families?

Watch the forum live today at noon Pacific time (3 p.m. Eastern, 2 p.m. Central, 1 p.m. Mountain) on C-SPAN and the ABC News website. Blogger Jonathan Singer will be interviewing some of the candidates this week and you can submit questions for them on the MyDD blog.

As long as it’s not broadcast by Fox News I’ll be happy to watch. The Fox News one, I won’t be so happy to see.

The importance of uionization is a must for the worker and the workers to reilize they are the uion. The Corperation should be happy to encourage the uion so their will be more organization and brotherhood in their work force. We are proud workers and WANT JOBS and want to be the best productive workers. That means a sucessful company, and more working , productive days for the American Family. Having worked for SEARS they will go to ANY extend to stop the UIONS. NO limit to the cost of stopping them. Their biggest way is not to deduct the uions dues and if the uion goes thru, they bank on people not paying and fighting in the ranks wich ends the uion next elections. Corperations of America , Please reconzie Americans want to work, want to be productive, and want their companys to suceed to be the best!!!

IMO, Dennis Kucinich won the day. While all the speakers we good, it was Kucinich who presented the best Universal Health Care Proposal, Medicare for all and Not for profit health care administration for the reduction of the administration costs. He also IMO, has a clear plan to end the illegal war in Iraq and bring our troopps home in a timly manner while allowing for UN peace keepers to secure Iraq while the various factions reconcile.
Props to John Edwards also, for his ideas about 1 America, he hasn’t forgotton his Working Class roots. He gets it!

Out in the grassroots, workers are mighty angry at the thought their health care benefits could be taxed in a health care reform plan.
