Presidential candidate John Edwards met with nearly 1,000 union members in Seattle on May 1 for the second of the AFL-CIO’s Working Families Vote 2008 national town hall forums.
Edwards told the crowd:
If we want to build the middle class in this country…it is absolutely crucial that we make it easier, not harder, to organize unions in the workplace.
Now you can check out a video of the forum and see firsthand what Edwards had to say about issues important to working people.
The AFL-CIO, which has not endorsed any candidate for president, is holding these town hall forums as part of an intensive six-month program to engage union members and their families nationwide in the AFL-CIO’s presidential endorsement decision-making process. Find out more about all the candidates, and get easy access to video clips, polling, the latest political news from blogs around the country and more at the new AFL-CIO Working Families Vote 2008 website.

Beware of lawyers Luke11:46-52
I admire John Edwards for urging Congress to take a stand on the
deadline for bringing the troops home from Iraq. What I want to hear is a deadline for finishing the fence at our Mexican border and that he will support law enforcement in deporting those here illegally. When that is done and the employers have been prosecuted for hiring them, then we need to establish an immigration program that will meet our needs while protecting the standard of living our own citizens deserve.
He’s a lawyer. Duh, he should be willing to uphold our laws and if
he won’t do that, I won’t vote for him.
Patriot, I wish it was as easy as building a fence. I agree that the illegal immigrant crossing the border has gotten out of control. However, it is also another “wedge issue”. There are many people who believe the illegal immigrants need to be treated with dignity (many times there are small children involved.) Then there are those who feel that all they deserve is a swift kick back over the border.
Something needs to be done, and the longer we delay the more the issue divides us. Legislation needs to be drafted but I don’t see that happening any time soon…especially with a presidential election just around the corner. The minority population does pay attention!
I’ll vote for the candidate that supports the U.S. working people!
