With the Senate planning to debate the Employee Free Choice Act soon, union activists and allies across the nation are ratcheting up the effort to persuade their lawmakers to pass this landmark legislation.
During this National Call-In Week, working families will make thousands of phone calls to urge uncommitted senators to back the act and thank those who are supporting it.
Electrical Workers (IBEW) Vice President Don Siegel (see video) says it is “absolutely essential” that working families let their senators know how we feel about the Employee Free Choice Act.
This is our time. This is the best time we are ever going to have. We have more friends [in Congress] than we have had in 20 years. We need to let them know we’re out there for them on Election Day. We’re out there for you. You now need to be there for us.
During this week, call your U.S. senators to thank those who are co-sponsors of the Employee Free Choice Act (S. 1041) for fighting to give workers the choice to organize a union. Call senators who haven’t yet supported the bill to tell them do so before the vote.
Keep the pressure on! If you live in one the following states–Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Virginia–tell your senator he or she needs to support workers’rights. Dial 1-800-774-8941.
It also is important to thank senators who have co-sponsored the Employee Free Choice Act. Click here to see the list of co-sponsors of the bill and dial 1-800-718-1008 to thank them.
