AFL-CIO Forum Kicks Off With a Discussion on Nation’s Infrastructure

AFL-CIO President John Sweeney introduced the forum. He thanked all the candidates “for what you have done for working people” and called the forum “one giant job interview…with workers doing the interviewing.”

Keith Olbermann’s first question went to Sen. Chris Dodd on how he would ensure the nation’s infrastructure is well-maintained. Sen. Dodd said instead of putting billions of dollars into Iraq, funding should be directed at rebuilding projects at roads, bridges and mines.

Olbermann asked Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton about her plan to establish a National Commission on Infrastructure. She said it would create jobs and is necessary because we “need a better infrastructure to protect us.”

Former Sen. John Edwards questioned: “Whose gonna bring about the change?” He said he doesn’t “want to trade a group of insiders for another group of insiders.”

Rep. Dennis Kucinich talked about the work he’s done on infrastructure during his time in the U.S. House of Representatives. “I’m here as the workers’ candidate,” Kucinich said, as he called for the end of NAFTA and the WTO.

Gov. Bill Richardson warned that “privatization is not the answer.” He said corporate welfare could be used to invest in the nation’s power grid and our highways.

The trouble with the current field of “8″ nationally known Democrats is that they all are, or recently were, career incumbents - therefore they are part of the problem and offer only solutions that will appeal to Labor to win their support.

Labor must dig deeper this time around and support a true Labor candidate - me. I encourage everyone to check me out at http://www.citizendan2008.com
and at http://www.vote-smart.org and a few other places.

I come from a strong Labor family - my dad was his local secretary-treasurer for many years and his was a hardworking common labor and Hodcarrier all his life in Southern Illinois.

I have always been a strong advocate for Labor and the working class of America because that’s where I come from - it’s the backbone of our country.

Too many in office and seeking office make tons of promises that they can never keep. We need change and sticking with the failed, stale status quo, same old, same old names is not the answer. Sadly, people like me get little attention even though I am a valid, legal candidate who filed with the FEC.

All I ask is this: check me out and give me a chance.

Out in the grassroots, workers are mighty angry at the thought their health care benefits could be taxed in a health care reform plan.
