New Poll Shows Bush’s Isolation on Children’s Health |

A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows what many of us already know—Bush and his allies in Congress are “on the wrong side of public opinion on upcoming foreign and domestic policy battles.”
Specifically, the poll finds Bush and other opponents of covering 10 million children through the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) flying squarely in the face of public opinion. The Washington Post reports:
More than seven in 10 in the poll support the planned $35 billion spending increase, and 25 percent are opposed. About half of all Americans “strongly” support the increased spending; 17 percent are firmly against the additional funds. Eighty-one percent of Democrats, 69 percent of independents and 61 percent of Republicans are in favor.
Both the U.S. House and Senate have voted with overwhelming bipartisan majorities to make sure 10 million children have health care.
This was welcome news to hard-working families across the country who simply can’t afford insurance—and can only pray each night their kids don’t get sick or hurt.
President Bush is set to veto the bill, calling this necessary investment in children’s health “excessive.” Yet, as he was threatening to kill the bill, Bush announced an additional $200 billion in spending for the war in Iraq. The president wants to spend as much in about one month of the war in Iraq as it would cost to cover 10 million children for one year.
Bush has not yet vetoed the SCHIP bill. Click here to tell President Bush to get his priorities straight and sign the bill into law.

He’s the decider, not the listener. If this program expands it pokes more holes in his stance on health care. King Bush can have nothing challenge his vision of the world.
Bush’s veto threat is just one more reason for him to eliminate the middle class.
SCHIP
A poem by Dave Hurlburt 9-24-2007
Bush Bush what do you say! you will veto SCHIP today!
How many children will your veto kill each day.
How much money will you make emergency rooms pay!
Causing all of us higher health care cost because of delay!
Preventative care and regular checkup are the way to go.
Even your own party says they will override your veto.
Our children need health care now. Do not cause a delay.
You need to sign SCHIP and you need to do it today!
Your Political ideas not to raise taxes are short sighted
If you veto SCHIP your mistake will be righted.
Parents, children, and the congress are united.
See the Healthy children and you will be delighted!
