Walks, Phone Banks Ready for Virginia Activists

Doris Crouse-Mays, secretary-treasurer of the Virginia AFL-CIO, urges all union members in the Northern Virginia area to take part in this weekend’s get-out-the-vote walks. A lot is at stake for working families in the November elections in Virginia, where state Senate races are expected to be decided by just a few hundred votes.

It’s Friday, Oct. 26, just 11 days from Election Day. We are getting much needed rain in Virginia that will be turning the grass green, but we know the Virginia Labor 2007 program will be turning our state blue! So we can not let anything stop us!

Statewide, we have made over 12,000 calls and knocked on 7,000 union household doors for the state senate and house races.

We are just 11 days away from once again having a victory in Virginia! But to do this we need everyone tomorrow at a staging area for Labor-to-Labor Walks—rain or shine! If it is raining, there will be an indoor option to make phone calls for activists who can’t go out in inclement weather.

CWA Secretary-Treasurer Barbara Easterling, will kick off tomorrow’s walk at the Northern Virginia Central Labor Council. We’ll have sandwiches there after the walk—so work up an appetite securing working families’ futures and celebrate with a tasty lunch afterwards!

John Miller, candidate for Senate District 1, will send off volunteers at the Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) Local 540 union hall in Newport News.

Here’s the Virginia Labor-to-Labor Walk schedule.
