Huckabee Will Cross Picket Line to Appear on Leno

Looks like former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) will be among the first to cross the television writers’ picket line when Jay Leno goes back on NBC’s “Tonight Show.”

Huckabee, who’s seeking the Republican presidential nomination, will go ahead with a scheduled appearance when Leno returns to the air tonight. TV writers have been on strike for the past two months for a new contract that includes a fair share of revenues from Internet and electronic distribution of material they’ve written.

According to The New York Times, Huckabee today

professed his support for the striking television writers union just a few hours before he was expected to board a plane to for a taping of the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno where he will face a vocal picket line of striking writers.

Uh, sorry. Expressing support for striking workers means not crossing the picket line.

Huckabee was endorsed in the Republican primary by the Machinists (IAM), who also endorsed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) in the Democratic primary. Tom Buffenbarger, president of the Machinists, had this to say:

Governor Huckabee should not cross the picket line. We have made that abundantly clear to his campaign. With such missteps, he risks losing the support his jobs and economic policies have won for him among trade unionists who will attend the GOP caucuses in Iowa or will vote in the later primaries.

David Letterman also is back on the air. But unlike Leno, his Worldwide Pants production company, which produces Letterman’s “Late Show” and Craig Ferguson’s “Late Late Show” (both on CBS), worked with the writers to reach interim agreements.

In the last round of bargaining early last month, as negotiators for the Writers Guild of America were preparing a counteroffer to the producers’ demand that the writers withdraw half a dozen critical proposals, the TV executives walked out of the contract negotiations Dec. 10.

Huckabee will be the second Republican presidential candidate to cross the picket line. Last month, Rep. Ronald Paul (Texas) crossed the picket line to appear on ABC’s “The View.”

Leading Democratic candidates have been supportive of the writers’ strike. They have refused to cross the picket lines, and the Democratic National Committee canceled a scheduled Dec. 10 debate on CBS to honor picket lines if a strike by CBS News writers were called.

UPDATE: It’s reported that Clinton will also appear on TV tonight - but she’ll appear on Letterman’s program and won’t cross a picket line.

Jay Leno is a scum bag, what he does not have enough money to hold him over through the strike. he just bows down to the bosses at NBC. What a puke!!!

The best thing for the Jay Leno’s group is have someone approach the Lt. govenor of California and have him initiate a motion to resume talks with the NBC people. Its that simple. Sceenwriter’s unions want to work. Everyone may gain if everyone works through the talks. The biggest obstacle is people in the corporate world wanting to wash their hands of things. I blame the honorable Govenor Arnold as much as anyone else. Its his great state of Californina. Come one Terminator- Get off you–butt- Encourage both sides to sit down and talk. Jay quit the donut’s thing and use your influence not sit back acting unconcerned bullcrap- Daniel L.Phillips/thecrystalTomahawk

How embarrassing for the Machinists Union, which endorsed this neanderthal. Apparently just the fact that Hucksterbee was the only one to show up at the IAM convention was enough to win an endorsement from the geniuses who think an evangelical know-nothing is qualified to be president. Hucksterbee makes Dubya Bush look like Einstein. Will the IAM rescind their ill-conceived endorsement of the obviously anti-union and painfully idiotic preacher? William Winpinsinger must be spinning in his grave!!

With people like Mike Huckabee running for government positions, our UNIONS will be lucky to make it. Unions are getting smaller and smaller, and the only way we can win them back is through education of our young workforce, not through a goverment who continues to raise taxes, cut the American workforce and double talk with each breath.

David Letterman is the only “Late-Nite Host” to honor the membership of the Writers’ Guild of America.

The others (Leno, O’Brien, etc.) claimed they supported the writers, but then finked on them and crossed WGA picket lines.

Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee also crossed the picket line to appear on the Jay Leno fink show. It will be interesting to see how the International Association of Machinists (IAM) responds to Huckabee’s finking on the writers. As you may recall, the IAM endorsed both Huckabee and Clinton.

All TRUE Union People should boycott Leno and no right minded Union person should support Huckabee. He is a slick talker with a disarming mile and sway. He knew what he was doing by crossing the picket line. It was his way of saying screw the Unions.
It would be a disaster for America if he were elected.

In the past I was never was a fan of Letterman, but I am now because he showed respect for the Union Writers.

I urge all my Union Brothers & Sisters to vote Democratic. Clinton, Obama and Edwards all would make great Presidents

Mike Hukabee is a snake oil salesman and will say anything to get the nomination for the GOP presidential nod. Most people really think he is great. His education and use of slick words came from Bill Clinton who labor supported in two elections who gave us NAFTA and Bush who Gave us CAFTA and then the WTO who continues to sell our manufacturing to China. Wake up America! Union did not endorse in primaries in the past only in general elections. Let them SOB’s fight it out and then we pick the candidate of choice. We should be running our own candidates for office locally and for the congress.

Presidential candidate Mike Hunkabee has struck the ultimate mortal blow to the heart of both the working and middle class when he crossed the picket line.

What brand of “family values” was this former pastor promoting?

What do working families learn from this?

It’s that you can’t give your trust and vote to a false prophet.

Take the time to study their voting record through either your state or national AFL-CIO Roll Call.

One thing that must be made clear to everyone in the US, The Democractic Convention, being held here in Denver is being held at the non-union Pepsi Center. At the Nuggets and Avalache games there is no union represented workers working those events. The Democratic Party knew that coming in. After a uprising headed by Teamsters leader Jimmy Hoffa Jr. they made a one time deal to allow union represented workers for the one time event of the Convention. That is all the Democrates care about, the one time event. My point is be careful of your allegence to just one Party. They have shown their true colors in Denver. They only care about the Unions when it is put in thier face. Left to thier own devices they would have held thier Convention in the non-union Pepsi Center. The Democratic party then would have been the true scabs. Thanks to Jimmy Hoffa Jr., they saved a little face in the end, but not with me!
