Union Plus Offers Prescription Savings for Union Members |

Anyone who has filled a prescription recently knows the cost of those vital medicines keeps climbing and climbing. Some 29 percent of the nearly 27,000 people who took the recent AFL-CIO/Working America 2008 Health Care for America Survey say they didn’t fill a prescription or skipped required dosages because of the high costs. The numbers are even higher—51 percent—for those without health insurance.
A new prescription drug program from Union Plus could save union members and their families an average of 20 percent on brand-name drugs and up to 55 percent on generics. The new online prescription discount card—part of the Union Plus Health Savings program—is free for union members and its benefits apply to all family members in your household.
The discount card is not insurance but can help you reduce your out-of-pocket prescription drug costs. While most union members have health insurance that may include some level of prescription drug coverage, the Union Plus prescription drug discount card can provide significant savings on medications not covered by insurance. If you do not have prescription drug coverage, the discount card will provide substantial savings.
You can sign up for the prescription drug discount card online (click here) and print it from the website. It will be activated and ready to use within 72 hours after submitting your information.
The Union Plus discount card website also will help you locate participating pharmacies in your area, enable you to compare prescription drug prices at local pharmacies and identify alternative drugs that may have deeper discounts. A prescription mail-order service also is available for home delivery and additional savings.
