AFSCME Endorses Obama

by Seth Michaels, Jun 19, 2008

AFSCME has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) for president, following a unanimous vote by the union’s International Executive Board in favor of the endorsement.

AFSCME President Gerald McEntee said the 1.4 million-member union would mobilize enthusiastically to elect Obama.

Barack Obama has mobilized a historic movement to reclaim the greatness of America. With his leadership, our nation will rise up to rebuild the middle class at home and restore America’s reputation in the world. AFSCME will mobilize more members and invest more resources than ever before to help Senator Obama win the White House. We will turn out an army of 40,000 AFSCME activists to knock on doors, make phone calls and talk with their co-workers and neighbors to produce an unprecedented turnout in the 2008 election.

Barack Obama is a proven fighter on the issues our members care about most, such as ending privatization, providing state and local fiscal relief, fully funding and supporting public services and the workers who provide them and guaranteeing that everyone in our country has access to quality, affordable health care they can count on.

In October, AFSCME endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) for president. Clinton suspended her campaign earlier this month and endorsed Obama.

Obama also has been endorsed by AFGE, the Boilermakers (IBB), the AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department (BCTD), the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers (IFPTE), the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU), the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA), the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters (UA), the Postal Workers (APWU), the UAN, the UAW and the Utility Workers (UWUA).

Three unions that initially endorsed former Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.)—the Mine Workers (UMWA), Transport Workers (TWU) and United Steelworkers (USW)—also have given their endorsements to Obama.

Twelve other AFL-CIO affiliate unions endorsed Clinton: AFT, Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Bricklayers (BAC), Letter Carriers (NALC), Machinists (IAM), Office and Professional Employees (OPEIU), Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT), Plasterers and Cement Masons (OP&CMIA), Sheet Metal Workers (SMWIA), TCU/IAM, Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) and the United Transportation Union (UTU). The IAM and IUPAT endorsements of Clinton in the Democratic primaries were accompanied by endorsements of former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee in the Republican primaries.

The Fire Fighters (IAFF) union, which endorsed Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), has not announced a new endorsement.

In August 2007, the AFL-CIO Executive Council said it would not make an endorsement at that time for a 2008 presidential candidate, freeing AFL-CIO unions to endorse candidates for the caucuses and primaries. The AFL-CIO will continue the Working Families Vote 2008 campaign to help elect a worker-friendly Congress and president.

Dear members: Please investigate the candidate . The future of our country is in peril.
I check You Tube at least once a week, Then I investigate and I am afraid
for the well being of USA.
The following I found as postings in You Tube and I did found true.

    In You Tube please

    Search: 2

Soros-Obama 08, USA, Israel, Iraq & The World Under The Bus?

    or, watch?v=xzad0eYMDjE

The CHANGE MAKER - Friends of Barack Obama

    or watch?v=UyqnLpPTFco

please investigate, I am just a humble person that loves USA !

I do not presume to change anyone’s mind. I feel that all voters

    must be informed.

In the above videos please read the ( More info )

These videos will give you answers to questions that puzzled

millions. JUST BE INFORMED BEFORE YOU HAND YOUR COUNTRY !

Do you even know WHO George Soros IS ?

MY GOD BLESS YOU , USA AND ALL OF US !

Do your own research, do not follow blindly .

I took the time to view your suggested searches. Wow…what an eye opener. At first, I suspected you were not being honest because of the fear mongering rhetoric you were utilizing. Now, after carefully viewing the video clips and doing my own research, I am certain of it. What a bunch of rubbish!!! There isn’t a single grain of truth promoted in the video clips. You are selling fools gold and I’m not buying it.

The first search that you suggest was posted by m1media. M1media joined youtube about 3 months ago and already has posted 208 video clips. All of which are negative attack clips against Obama. This adds up to have all the markings of a 527 group doing a “swiftbaot style” hit job.

The second search that you suggest was posted by miradena. Miradena only joined youtube about 1 month ago. Miradena is a subscriber of govspysonallchats, JohnMcCaindotcom, and Clintons4McCain. Hardly credible information when considering the sources.

So, you want to inform the voters. Well, so do I. Check out this link:

      http://www.aflcio.org/issues/legislativealert/votes/vr_memb.cfm

From that site you can review the Congressional voting records of all the Congresspersons and Senators, state by state. Check out Arizona, for McCain, and Illinois, for Obama. You will find that on bill after bill, vote after vote, year after year; McCain has supported the working families of America 16% of the time while Obama has supported us 98% of the time.

This is information based upon facts and verifiable by observing the votes as recorded into the Congressional Record. It stands in stark contrast to propaganda, which is based on twisted half lies and insinuation.

I hope this helps clear up the whole “Do your own research, do not follow blindly” thing. I provide this information to you because “I am just a humble person that loves USA” but I’m also a little tired of being patronized by impersonators of “humble person(s) that loves USA.”

I am really outraged that you would discredit any video based on the fact that a poster has a new account. Let me tell you something, people are fed up with the lies and they want to do anything they can to get the word out about Obama. There are many new people posting videos and writing blogs because they are fed up. I never responded before this and I am new - does that make me less credible?? I have researched the video the Change Maker on Youtube and after seeing it - I know that there is enough evidence to support everything that is said. It has actual audio and ways to research. Anyone with their eyes open can see that the informatiojn is easily proven. So why don’t you post what you disagree with specifically in the videos instead of lumping everything together and maybe someone can open your eyes for you to the truth. Because is there. You just have to look. And you need to be willing to see it.

About time, my local political action prgoram took a hard hit wtih the Clinton endorsement. The whole issue of early endorsements is a hot button for AFSCME, then to continue to hold the line as things fell apart for the Clinton camp did more damage. As for the comment above I think we can say this comes from a mmber a bit to the right of most of the labor paltform. If I read this right he’s doing the FOX news Soros boogeyman dance-sorry that;s out of style now. We do the put up or shut up and You Tube is not source material for school papers. Or union policy
