McCain Collects His Social Security Checks. Why Shouldn’t We? |

The Alliance for Retired Americans, the national organization that advocates for the rights of more than 3.5 million retirees and their families, asks a good question:
Will John McCain return the Social Security check he calls a “disgrace”?
Seems that even though he called Social Security a “disgrace,” the senator from Arizona doesn’t mind collecting his own monthly Social Security check, nearly $2,000 a month.
Says Edward Coyle, executive director of the Alliance for Retired Americans:
Retirees are puzzled by today’s media accounts that Senator John McCain received Social Security benefits of $23,157 in Social Security in 2007, an average of $1,929.75 each month.
America’s seniors deserve straight talk. Sen. McCain, now that you have said that Social Security is a disgrace, will you now mark “RETURN TO SENDER” on your check?
Earlier this month, McCain told a town hall in Denver:
Americans have got to understand that we are paying present-day retirees with the taxes paid by young workers in America today. And that’s a disgrace. It’s an absolute disgrace and it’s got to be fixed.
As Josh Marshall at TPM noted:
It’s really a disgrace? That’s how the system was designed to operate. And it’s served as financial bedrock of retirement security in this country for going on a century.
McCain’s Senate voting record shows he wants to gamble with hard-working American’s retirement security by privatizing Social Security. Take a look at McCain’s voting record here and compare it with the voting record of Sen. Barack Obama. Obama has stated he will not privatize Social Security and will not cut benefits or raise the retirement age.
As Obama puts it:
I believe there are a number of ways we can make Social Security solvent that do not involve placing these added burdens on our seniors.

He and the other wealthy elitists don’t need to receive Social Security. With all the money he has there is absolutely no need for this abomination. Has he paid one penny into SSI? I hear the wealthy don’t pay into it in the the first place so what gives him and all the other wealthy people the right to receive this money? Every single one of them should return every red cent they received!!!!
John McCain who has spent 26 years in Governmetn and yet he doesn’t understand how the Social Security System Works? This man shold especially know how the system works and yet his ignorance shows just how unfortunate this Coutnry woul dbe if he gets elected to lead it.
Everyone knows the systems was set up for all to pay into it so that when retirement comes we have something that will help us. McCain receives it and shouldn’t with his wealth. He doens’t pay into it like al other wealthy elitists. They all should send every single dollar back!!!!!!
McCain is the biggest flip flop artist in the Senate today. His voting record is a joke especially voting 95% down party lines and backing Bush as well. What a joke this guy is!!!!!!
