Alliance for Retired Americans President George J. Kourpias encourages union retirees to drop a line to their local newspapers on key issues—and get a union-made Retirees with the Write Stuff free pen.
With threats to Social Security and Medicare and mounting economic anxiety, it’s more important than ever for retirees to make their voices heard in their local communities.
The Alliance for Retired Americans today is launching Retirees with the Write Stuff, a new campaign to encourage more retirees to write letters to their local newspaper.
Retirees who write a letter to their local paper—and have it published—can receive a free, union-made Retirees with the Write Stuff pen, courtesy of the Alliance. We’ll also send you a pen if you’re quoted in a newspaper article.
Submitting a letter to the editor adds a first-person, local angle to public policy debates in this country and offers a great opportunity for retirees to share their views and experiences with their neighbors.
Did you know more people read the Letters to the Editor page than any other section of the newspaper? Best of all, Letters to the Editor are free, which sure helps when you are challenging the big drug and insurance companies and their high-priced lobbyists.
Send us a copy of your letter at:

Letters also can be e-mailed to Letters@RetiredAmericans.org or faxed to 202-637-5398.
