Sue Ledbetter, Wisconsin State AFL-CIO political director, sends this GOTV update.
We’re getting out the vote in Wisconsin today. Some 80 AFSCME District Council 31 members were bused up from Chicago this morning to help get out the vote (GOTV) in Milwaukee, as part of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Labor 2008’s GOTV mobilization.
Several business agents from Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 139 are taking teams of AFSCME members to union doors in Milwaukee and the surrounding areas to make sure those union members get to the polls and to remind them that we’ve endorsed Sen. Barack Obama, along with a great group of working family candidates up and down the ballot.
The IUOE guides are Steve Buffalo, Tim Goetz, Travis Martzahl, Dave Parkinson, Rick Parrent, Dan Schultz, Greg West and Milwaukee Area Labor Council President Willie D. Ellis, who is also an IUOE Local 139 member.
Just since Friday, we’ve had 1,983 union volunteers knock on 50,743 doors and make 105,731 GOTV phone calls.

My voting experience today was very pleasant. It only took about 30 minutes for my family and I to cast our votes. I was so excited to see so many people turning out to vote today. I just hope that they have picked the “Working People” candidate to vote for, which would be Barack Obama. I plan on staying up all night long to see the results and hopefully celebrate a victory for Obama/Biden. Sincerely, Vicki Greene, Oklahoma City, OK
