Gov. Strickland talks to union members at the Ohio AFL-CIO phone bank.

The phone bank at the Ohio AFL-CIO got a visit from Gov. Ted Strickland today as the final round of get-out-the-vote calls got under way.

Union support helped propel Strickland to victory in 2006, and now he’s working hard to reach out to union members to help get Sen. Barack Obama elected president.

With Ohio a key state in the presidential race, Strickland told union members the hard work they are doing could be decisive tonight.

The work you’re doing is so important—any call you make could be the deciding factor.

Strickland said that the strong performance of the Ohio Labor 2008 program can make the difference for Obama and for pro-worker candidates in key House races around the country.

In the final days of this election season, union volunteers across the state have made thousands of calls, knocked on thousands of door and distributed countless fliers. Doug Sizemore, the secretary-treasurer of the Cincinnati AFL-CIO, says Ohio union members are committed to getting out every vote.

We’re not letting up, we’re making sure that working families’ voices are heard. We are the ones who have the ability to control our own destiny, and we must make that happen today.

Out in the grassroots, workers are mighty angry at the thought their health care benefits could be taxed in a health care reform plan.
