Do you want real health care reform that provides affordable and quality care for all?
Then join today’s National Call-In Day for Health Care Reform and tell your two senators that we can’t wait any longer for health care reform that:
* Controls costs and doesn’t tax our benefits.
* Provides guaranteed coverage to all Americans.
* Includes a public health insurance plan option.
* Holds insurance companies accountable.
* Requires all employers to pay their fair share.
You don’t even have to let your fingers do the walking—we’ll dial for you.
Place your call by clicking the “Call” button at the bottom of the box above. You will be asked to provide information so we will know to which senators we should place your call.
Choose which of your senators you want to call first. Once you click, you’ll see some simple talking points to help you to know what to say. Shortly after, we will call you, play a short message and connect you directly—all at no cost to you (unless your phone service provider charges you for incoming calls, you may be charged for the call time).
Then hit the green “go back” arrow and call your other senator.
If you would rather call later and dial yourself, call 1-877-323-5246.
In addition, more than 100 local and state union leaders from more than two dozen states are in Washington, D.C., today to meet with their lawmakers. They also are delivering tens of thousands of handwritten letters from union members and Working America members and other activists demanding comprehensive health care reform that reins in health insurance company abuses and provides coverage for all. We will bring you more on their visits later today and tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Senate Finance Committee, which was expected to vote on its flawed bill by today, has postponed action until later this week, or early next week. Last week, the committee voted down a public health insurance option. Its version of the health care reform also contains unfair taxes on workers’ health care benefits.
After the Finance Committee acts, the next step is to merge that bill with the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee legislation that includes a public option and doesn’t tax workers’ health benefits. That could be on the Senate floor sometime next week or the following week. House action likely will come soon after the Senate moves.

The Brevard Federation of Teachers Local 2098 and IUPAT Local 1010 desperately need your support regarding the impasse decision made by the Brevard County School Board. .
Below is a brief synopsis of what will be done to our employees beginning January 1, 2009.
· The Board is proposing a $30.00 a month employee contribution increase to all health care plans offered for calendar year 2010.
· The Board is seeking to eliminate Section 125 credits, Joint Coverage, Opt Out, and Board paid vision
· The Board is seeking a surcharge of $250.00 a month for spouse who can get insurance elsewhere.
· The Board is seeking to increase all co-pays for the medical and pharmaceutical plans.
On Tuesday, October 13, 2009, beginning at 5:30 p.m., both BFT and Local 1010 will be picketing the school board and asking our brothers and sisters to WEAR BLACK all day to show their support. I am requesting that each local president email or write a letter to Brevard’s superintendent and each school board member informing them that denying our employees the right to affordable insurance and health care benefits is demoralizing, unworthy, violates Chapter 447, and harms the children of our county. You must also keep in mind that superintendents and school board members are communicating with each other, and you may face the same crisis in your county in the near future.

“Do you want real health care reform that provides affordable and quality care for all?”
Tell your representative and senators in Congress that the recent AFL-CIO convention just held in September, passed unanimously a resolution in favor of “Medicare for All” (single payer) health care.
Tell them that a 70% majority of the public support “Medicare for All”.
Remind them that there is another election in 2010. All incumbent members of Congress who support the corrupt corporate Health Care profit interests over the needs of the people will be vigorously opposed and defeated next November.
Let’s get health care for everyone because it is long past due. The World Health Organization as ranked the U.S. as #37 in best health care among the world. http://www.ourblook.com/component/option,com_sectionex/Itemid,200076/id,8/view,category/#catid107
With all the money, resources, and facilities we have, this is simply unacceptable.
Let’s reign in the insurance industry, bring health care back to its original goal, and uphold the principals of the Hippocratic Oath.
