SETTLEMENTS
UAW, Boeing: Members of UAW Local 1069 at Boeing’s Rotorcraft plant near Philadelphia ratified a new five-year contract yesterday, after their contract expired Oct. 1.  The new pact covers nearly 1,800 workers and includes annual raises between 2 percent and 4 percent and improves pension benefits.

AFT-NEA, Miami-Dade School District: Miami-Dade teachers, members of the United Teachers of Dade (AFT-NEA), approved a new three-year contract on Wednesday. The 22,000 teachers will receive a 1.8 percent increase this year and maintain fully covered individual health care.

USW, Washington TRU Solutions: United Steelworkers (USW) at a nuclear waste plant in New Mexico voted in favor of a new two-year contract on Wednesday. Members of USW Local 9477 had rejected a previous offer by the plant’s operator just two weeks ago, but the new contract includes an annual increase of 3.75 percent and contains important seniority language.

WORK STOPPAGES AND ACTIONS
IAM, Pratt & Whitney: Connecticut’s Attorney General Richard Blumenthal has requested to file a brief with the court in support of the Machinists’ (IAM’s) attempt to block the jet engine company, Pratt & Whitney, from moving 1,000 jobs out of the state.  The company called Blumenthal’s request “partisan,” but the attorney general responded that he is doing his job to protect the public interest.

TWU, New York Metropolitan Transit Authority: Hundreds of New York City transit workers rallied Wednesday in a “day of outrage.” Members of Transport Workers (TWU) Local 100 protested the transit authority’s court challenge to the contract awarded by an arbitration panel in August.

NEGOTIATIONS
CWA, AT&T: Members of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) have reached a tentative agreement with AT&T Inc. The proposed four-year contract covers some 26,000 workers in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas and includes annual increases in pay and pension contributions.  A ratification vote will be held in the next few weeks.

CWA, Chicago Sun-Times: Chicago Typographical Union/CWA (CTU/CWA) Local 16 is fighting what it terms “ramrod tactics” by an investor hoping to buy the Chicago Sun-Times. News reports and the bankruptcy judge assigned to the case signaled that the sale was moving ahead, but they forgot about the CTU/CWA. The Typographers are protesting company demands that they give up job guarantees and sign over both severance rights and any assurance of further work with the company.

AFSCME, State of Hawaii: The Hawaii Government Employees Association/AFSCME (HGEA/AFSCME) Local 152 has reached a tentative two-year agreement with Gov. Linda Lingle. To help the state with its budget crisis, the pact covering nearly 30,000 workers calls for 18 furlough days this fiscal year and 24 furlough days next fiscal year.  Results of the ratification vote are expected later today.
