Machinists Highlight Trumka’s Jobs Plan
The Machinists union (IAM) has been at the forefront of the fight to end our nation’s jobs crisis, and in a new video, the union is highlighting the dangerous rise in unemployment and the AFL-CIO’s five-point plan for job creation.
The video features footage of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka launching this urgent call for job creation along with allies from the civil rights community at the Economic Policy Institute last month. Trumka will push for action on these five principles at tomorrow’s Jobs Summit.
Deirdre Kaniewski of the Machinists News Network reports on the dangerous rise in the unemployment rate and the union movement’s response:
In October of this year, the unemployment rate in this country crossed the 10 percent mark. It’s the first time that’s happened in more than a quarter of a century, and that sobering news has organized labor rallying even harder for the creation of jobs.
The Machinists’ Jobs Now! campaign, launched this fall, calls for more investment in manufacturing, transportation and helping workers build critical skills. Check out more videos from the Machinists News Network here.

President Obama just announced last night a huge increase in troops in Afghanistan for adding another 35 billion more dollars to the national debt, which is already ten trillion plus!
And Mr. Trumka is going hat-in-hand begging Obama and the
Democrats for some jobs?
THERE IS NO MONEY FOR JOBS CREATION APART FROM JOBS THAT MIGHT BE NEEDED AFTER FOR-PROFIT BUSINESSES FIRST SIPHON OFF THE STIMULUS MONEY TO LINE THE POCKETS OF CEOs AND INVESTORS.
The money needed for public education, support of bankrupt state services, public health care HAS ALL BEE USED UP BY WALL STREET, CORRUPT BANKERS, UNENDING WARS, SERVICING THE TRILLION DOLLAR DEBT, TO PAY FOR THE PRIVATIZED CORPORATIONS LOOTING OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ETC.ETC.ETC.
The greed of capitalists forever uses up and destroys the tax resources needed by the people for commonwealth services and needs essential to economic survival.
Is anyone going to confront war-mongering Obama and the corporate owned Democrats at the jobs summit with an ultimatum:
Start helping the working people of this country NOW,
or organized labor will call for the formation of a new political
party organized to fill the economic needs of working people.
Organized labor will, at last, lead working people to DUMP THE DEMOCRATS. A new party would refuse all corporate bribes and campaign contributions and thus be free of corporate control and agendas. A new socialist party “of, by, and for” the interests of working people.
Without this small essential first step, nothing will change as the nation and it’s working people sink into impoverishment, poor health, destroyed public education, and death and debilitation in unending wars that only enrich the corrupt politicians , the oil companies and military-industrial complex.

Oppose Obama’s escalation of the Afghan-Pakistan war! Withdraw all troops now!

Obama’s speech last night, which packaged the deployment of an additional 30,000 US troops to Afghanistan as the prelude to withdrawal, was a cynical exercise in evasion, double-talk and falsification.
The new deployment is a major escalation of an unpopular war that will lead to the deaths of countless thousands of Afghans and Pakistanis and a significant rise in US casualties. Indeed, many of the West Point cadets who were assembled to listen to the president’s speech will be sent to Afghanistan to fight in a war that the majority of Americans oppose.
Obama’s invocation of the attacks of September 11, 2001 to portray the war as a defense against terrorism is a fraud. The real reason for the occupation of Afghanistan—widely discussed within the foreign policy establishment—is to maintain a dominant position in oil-rich Central Asia in the interests of the global strategy of American imperialism.

As long as President Status Quobama has his University of Chicago, land of Milton Friedman and market fundamentalist anti-union acolytes as his advisors our jobs will continue to not exist, or continue to serve Wall Street while they keep screwing Main Street! We need an Apollo Program to rebuild our infrastructure towards a new green self sufficient small imprint energy production that is locality based and not given away to big business to screw more money out of us and give away to the same Wall Street bastards that have been bending us over since Reagan made it OK to do so!
Send all those H-1B visa workers packing and there will be more jobs for Americans. Make E-Verify mandatory and retroactive for ALL employers and there will be more jobs for Americans. Stop importing foreign workers and there will be more jobs for Americans. Stop allowing big business to run the country and there will be more jobs for Americans. If our government will just do what’s right for America there will be more jobs for Americans. Contact your senators and congressmen/women and tell them to DO WHAT’S RIGHT FOR AMERICA!
