14 Union Supporters Fired at E-Z Pass, Take Action Now

by Tula Connell, Mar 4, 2010

This just in from the Communications Workers of America (CWA):

One by one, 14 union supporters at the E-Z Pass administrative center in New York got a call from their boss on Monday asking them to “come into my office.” Then, one by one, all union supporters were told that their services were no longer needed. One union activist, Frank Buonvicino, was told, “We know you were one of the union leaders,” as he was let go. On the Friday before they were fired, all these workers had sent a message by standing up for 60 seconds while continuing to work.

The E-Z Pass administrative center is operated by Xerox. Xerox is refusing to bargain a contract with these newly organized CWA members, even though they won an election in May 2009.

Said Buonvicino:

I gave 150 percent to this company for five years. I am asking my union brothers and sisters to help us get our jobs back.

Tell Xerox CEO Ursula Burns that firing union supporters and refusing to bargain is outrageous. Send a message here.

From Eugene P. Holmes, Calvin and Penny Sisson, UAW Local 45, fraternal members
As fellow UAW members, we would ask the UAW/AFLCIO attorneys to look into the possibilities of filing as the Supreme Court of the United States allows, an eminent domain action against those employers, like Whirlpool, et. al., in federal court to protect the loss of taxes, loss of jobs, both local, state and federal and to not further damage or harm the American economy anymore. Please ask them to enjoin the local, state and federal governments involving these eminent domain actions and request. This would be of great public interest.
Fraternally yours, your brothers and sisters continue the struggle to save America. Don’t give up.

We have the weapons at our disposal. They were developed in Chicago, 1886, and later by the Wobblies, UMW, Eugene Debs, and the workers of SF, Minneapolis and Flint in the 30s. They are the strike, mass demonstrations, the sitdown strike, boycotts, and, of course, the general strike. They are our right to employ. Of course, they are illegal, but nowadays we must expect every workers struggle to have to fight the law and the companies tooth and nail, just like back in the day with the Pinkertons. These weapons sit unused in our holster, and they suffer for lack of use, but they remain very effective, if only our timid union reps had the brains or balls to employ them. Apparently, just whining and seeking simpathy from the bosses’ politicians in DC is not getting the job done.

I have to agree with Williamrayson. We are in extra ordinary times. Unemployment at a very high rate, people losing their homes, healthcare costs out of reach for most of us, the Supreme Court recognizing the “free speech” richs to the corporate monster… and the bosses firing us because we organize and speak out!
Yes. The time for action is long, long overdue! The politicians are not going to bite the hands that bribe them. The courts are controlled by the bosses as well. So the only REAL alternative is to SHUT THE BASTARDS DOWN!
