Wall Street: You Broke It, Now Fix It

Priscilla Luviano, communications coordinator for the Orange County Labor Federation, reports on how angry activists took on Big Banks at a recent Make Wall Street Pay rally.

“You caused the recession, fix it,” shouted Carl Ritola, delegate for the Orange County Labor Federation from Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 582. More than 100 angry working men and women marched outside Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase buildings in Santa Ana, Calif., to demand Big Banks do their fair share to restore the economy. In an editorial by Executive Director Tefere Gebre of the Orange County Labor Federation, Gebre noted how Wall Street took

$700 billion in taxpayer bailouts and went right back to business as usual. They choked up credit, handed about $145 billion in pay and bonuses to their executives who tanked our economy and hired an army of lobbyists to fight financial reform.

Rick Eiden, president of the Orange County Labor Federation, and Nick Berardino, OCEA general manager, stormed inside Bank of America in Santa Ana to tell management how their members are without work and have lost their homes “because of the actions of their financial institution.”

Eiden warned Bank of America that Orange County unions will not

go away, will not stop until they treat American working families fairly.

Ass#$%& Senator Dodd commented, “We don’t want to punish the Banking Industry” Where the HELL is he living? I’m sitting in a freaking underwater condo, paying a conventional 7% mortgage on a house that’s worth less than my mortgage, and I’m a 37 year member of the UA, running out of freaking unemployment while construction projects that have the groundwork in place were stopped by the banks so they could pay bonus’s and leverage buyouts of other banks with the bailout money we provided! YOU ARE GOD#$% RIGHT I WANT TO PUNISH THE SCUMBAGS THAT MIGHT CAUSE ME TO LOSE MY HOUSE! I read that the American middle class lost 17.5 TRILLION DOLLARS in home values and pension loss’s because of these wanna be Feudal Lordships reckless fraud for greed. And their trying to intimidate the politicians into letting them keep up the same scam!
What’s wrong with Americans that aren’t OUTRAGED at the conduct and complicity of the politicians who aren’t standing up for US!’ Do we have to get violent or rude to get their attention? Why aren’t they as OUTRAGED AS I AM? I call my Senators and my congressman every day and bitch up a storm and tell them the only way I’ll stop is if I get back to work! Join me! Insist on the re-instatement of Glass-Steagal!(separation of commercial and gambling investment banks) Insist on a financial security exchange tax, a 025% tax on each trade of any dirivitive, security, bond or other equity exchange (would have prevented the enron scam) and would stop the computerized speculation running rampant but would make the banks finance the next bank failure with their own money. Enforce the Sherman Anti-Trust Act and reform it to cover banks. Separate the Consumer Financial Protection Agency from the FED, audit the FED to see where the money went and who got. AND PUT THESE CROOKS IN JAIL! We can’t let them screw us again!!!!

They are too big to fail, to famous and well-connected to be criminals, too rich and white to go to jail. They must be expropriated and brought to justice before people’s courts, which means it is time to pick up where Abe Lincoln and Frederick Douglas left off and make revolution. We must read and study and learn our working class history because events are calling on us to make history.

The above comments bikini28 abd wukkuan ratsib) are right on target. The first citing the laws that need to be enforced and the second talking about education of the middle and lower classes. The history books we use in school are by and for the upper classes. It’s time we quit settling for a small paragraph about Samuel Gompers in our American history books.

Secondly, we should immediately employ several thousand more Border Patrol agents to begin to deport illegal aliens. Thirdly, we should charge the appropriate agency with arresting and fining the greedy business people who insist on hiring the illegal aliens.

Fourthly, we should change the laws that allow “anchor babies” and their families to reside in the U.S.A. Let them fight their war for independence in their own countries.
