Trumka: Time to Raise Our Voices for Good Jobs Now
Working Americans are outraged over the jobs crisis.
Ben from Augusta, Ga., says the economy is not doing as well—and describes feeling hopeless and scared because he doesn’t know what’s going to happen next.
In Washington, D.C., Patricia is shouldering the burden of the poor economy:
“I find that I’m doing more and more for my family with less and less that I have because they have less and less.”
Larry from Las Vegas pinpoints one of the prime culprits behind the economic mess:
It’s unfortunate on how the situation has occurred with these big bankers capitalizing on the U.S. government…wherein, they robbed us.
And Lori in Rochester, N.Y., offers a common-sense solution to the nation’s underlying problem: corporate greed.
When we’ve got corporations engaging in commerce overseas and not here, taking jobs away from Americans and taking them overseas because it’s better for the bottom line, for the profit of the company, we have to start thinking about Americans and what’s best for them, and not what’s best for the company.
AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka says when Congress went on vacation last week without passing a jobs bill or extending unemployment, it made him sick. He’s calling for all of us to make Congress listen to our concerns about the need for good jobs now by joining the AFL-CIO jobs team. Text JOBS to 225568 (standard text charges may apply).
Republicans in Congress—and some Democrats whom we supported—are blocking efforts to create jobs and stimulate job growth, Trumka says.
I don’t think they’re hearing us. I think they’re listening to Wall Street and the lobbyists for corporate America. I think it’s time we raised our voices…and make sure they hear us. It’s time for us to join together. It’s time to make some phone calls, send some faxes. Let them know that if jobs don’t become their number one priority, that come November…we’ll send them to the ranks of the unemployed, so they can join those without unemployment benefits.
Text JOBS to 225568 to join the fight for good American jobs now.

I don’t have text capabilities right now. However, what is going to take for our government…Congress…both Houses…to listen to the PEOPLE THAT THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO BE ADVOCATING FOR??? THIS IS BORDERING ON A DEPRESSION…THEY JUST ‘SPIN’ IT THAT WAY, SO PEOPLE WON’T TAKE TO THE STREETS. I’ve written…blogged…and am currently going to school, to learn the best way to push back what is happening to the WORKING PEOPLE of this country. People think they don’t have a voice… but it we let that mind set continue, lobbyists will continue to promote for big business. It’s long over due that every American… stand for working people…for JOBS, better working conditions…and better salaries. If we don’t…we will become a 2 class society..the rich and the poor.
It doesn’t make any difference what ideas or actions the Democrats want to take. The bottom line is this: The republicans think the Democrats are Socialists, aka. Communisits. Therefore, in there way of thinking, we are a threat to our country. So, any idea or action we want to take must be squashed.
Really, Brother Trumka? All we have to do is send a text message or a fax or make a call to “our” congress person? I say we have to do differently, way differently. We have to break with the Democrats and support independent candidates who answer up to what working people need and want. We have to build a party for working people and those many millions who want to work but who are shut out by the system. And what’s the system, Brother Trumka? Capitalism – the system that steals from workers to profit billionaires, while kicking workers to the curb, bankrolling endless war, scapegoating migrant workers and trashing the environment. Capitalism bankrolls congress, both parties. So, come election time, we need to renounce lesser evilism once and for all: the Democrat is not the lesser of two evils but the same evil! Break with the Democratic Party that has suckered us for decades while we go down the tubes! Build the Workers Party!
No one’s stopping you from building the Workers Party. OCAW tried it. In the meantime, I’ve rather help people who support us and have a viable chance.
I agree with you brother, but, remember what happened in 2000. Many voted for the best candidate, the one that proved he supported real working people, We got George Bush instead. We really must ALL write our elected representatives, snail mail is the best way. ANGRY LETTERS! PUT THEM ON NOTICE NOW! Tell them WE WILL vote them out of office! Pay attention to The people NOT the Special Interests!
@Social list: I definitely think we need to do something different, but I think it’s important to remember there are a few courageous dem candidates like Al Franken actually sponsering the EFCA bill (now we just need to bombared everyone in office to pass it all fricken ready) or Sharrod Brown or Marcy Kaptur. The problem is people keep electing “blue dogs” (puss bags) like max baucus…*&^%$#@! along with them, or the coffee shop neo liberal idiots that are “worried about the enviroment” but totally okay with making things in China, a place that has practicaly no enviromental laws and have people work 80 hour work weeks, or belive free trade has anything to do with Fair Trade or that free trade is in even slightly a good thing and not a total disease to all economies. And the kind of democrats that belive that Toy car I mean Toyota actually gives a crap about it’s workers (in the U.S. or China) when they fire people after 30 years of company loyalty, or just before full retirement benefits kick in and treat injured employees like crap.
The good democrats are the true belivers of the Great Society movement or the National Recovery Administration and the New Deal. I think people need to look at who the people are they are electing, not just the party name they are under.
And a reminder to people that think Ron Paul is okay please look at this video someone posted on Youtube:

Wage peace
Gabriel Falsetta
I insist that people must stop, I repeat, stop saying this is a Republican problem. It is the entire Congress. Let me see now, how many Democrats voted against the bailout, less than half.
How many leading Democrats actually fought for the unemployment extension?
I have said before, Bush/Cheney with a Republican congress got just about everything they wanted.
The Democratic majority now, is twice what the Republicans had at their hight point. So its not a partisan issue. I dislike Republicans and have never supported that party. But, they have never betrayed me. I always expected their kind of anti-labor policies.
But this Democratic Congress, with the Democratic president, have betrayed working people: on unemployment insurance extensions, on jobs, on healthcare, on the Gulf, on the wars, etc., etc.
So, first stop making it partisan, it isn’t.

If only the people could donate to campaigns they would have to come back to the real world. No corporate money no union money, Each candidate would get one million to start the campaign. If the “people” like your message you would get plenty of money if not, you are out! Each person could only donate up too one thousand dollars, that may give the government back to the American people. Now, to get the greedy SOBs to pass such a law would take us all raising much hell, but, I am tired of a bought and paid for congress.
