House Passes Jobs Bill for States, Obama Set to Sign

by Mike Hall, Aug 10, 2010

After months of Republican obstruction in the Senate, vital aid to states facing massive budget shortfalls and layoffs of hundreds of thousands of teachers, public employees, police officers and firefighters is on its way to the White House for President Obama’s signature. The bill just passed the House by 247-161 a few minutes ago. A pathetic number of Republican representatives–two, count ‘em, two–voted to support working families. Says AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka:

Simply put, this vote keeps us on the path to economic recovery….Republicans who continue to fight for tax cuts for the super rich did everything in their power to defeat funding for teachers and firefighters, adding to the laundry list of anti-jobs votes they’ve taken.

Read Trumka’s full statement here.

BTW, it’s fully paid for in part by closing costly corporate tax loopholes that allow corporations to ship American jobs overseas. Works for us. Too bad so many Republicans think it’s a bad idea.

When will Obama STOP trying to appease the obstructionist Republicans? Everyone knows that its the Republicans who have continued to block any reform that promises change for the average American–over 98% of us. However, it also appears that Obama accepts ALL the fillibustering and blocking by Republicans because Obama listens ONLY to the Clinton operatives and Rahm Emanual who fear the cor[porations who have TOTAL control over ALL of us due to the Supreme Court Decision in Citizens’ United ruling.

Let this yet another example of who the Republicans support, corporations, banks, and the ultra rich, certainty not the working man and woman. Not you, remember this come November, if we get more Democrats in office, we can pass some new legislation that the GOP has blocked, like the Employee Free Choice Act.

Hooray and, sincerely, praise the Lord!

Its great to see Democrats vote like DEMOCRATS should vote!

Its taken decades for this to happen. Had they voted this way when they were in the majority previously (that is voting like DEMOCRATS should vote), we would not have suffered at the hands of the BANKS and WALLSTREET and the CREDIT RATING INDUSTRY.

President Richard Trumka– keep on “keeping on”. You are helping to turn this country around. God bless you, too.
