Blue Green Alliance Bus Tour to Demand Action on Clean Energy Jobs

by James Parks, Aug 16, 2010

To remind lawmakers that Congress has stalled on legislation that would create and save millions of jobs across the country by building a  clean energy economy—while nations like China are forging ahead—the Blue Green Alliance today kicked off a three-week, 17-state, 30-city bus tour. The “Job’s Not Done Tour” began in Los Angeles and will end Sept. 3 in Richmond, Va.

Larry Cohen, president of the Communications Workers of America (CWA), says:

By failing to take action on these important clean energy policies, we are missing a huge opportunity to create good jobs now. Currently we are 16th in the world in the percentage of citizens with access to broadband. Expansion will not only create jobs, save Americans money and make our country more efficient, it will lead to the sustainable communities that are such an important part of our future.

Throughout the bus tour, union members and environmentalists will hold a series of roundtable discussions, press conferences and other activities to demonstrate nationwide support for creating clean energy jobs, including manufacturing clean energy technologies, building the 21st century broadband network, building a smart grid transmission system and making our homes and commercial buildings more efficient.

The tour also will travel through Albuquerque and Santa Fe, N.M.; Little Rock, Ark.; St. Louis; Indianapolis; Dayton, Ohio; Detroit; Madison, Wis.; Minneapolis; Pittsburgh; and Richmond. For more information, click here.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said earlier this month that our nation needs a comprehensive approach to energy and climate issues,

one that will invest in our future and create good jobs. It is vital to the national security, economic, and environmental interest of the nation.

“We can re-energize our economy by re-energizing America,” said Michael Langford, president of the Utility Workers (UWUA).

Building a smart grid that transmits cleaner, renewable energy will create good jobs, and we need to take action to make those jobs a reality now.

UTU affiliated recently with the Sheet Metal Workers and so is a member of the AFL-CIO.

This is one of the nuttiest articles I have ever read. We are into the 3rd year of the worst depression in our lifetimes. According to the Pew Poll 55% of Americans have lost their jobs, or taken substantial cuts in pay or hours. for every 150,000 jobs that are lost, only 16,000 jobs are created. There are millions of people out of work who have been dropped from the unemployment statistics because they come under the category of “no longer actively seeking employment” because they can’t find a g.. d… job! Meanwhile, millions lose their homes.

In the midst of all this, you’re going around the country organizing for “green jobs” on some silly bus. There is no way that “green” will produce millions of jobs. It ain’t true. How about a million man and woman march on Washington for jobs. Since, and these are the poll numbers, 80% of Americans believe that the Congress and the President are doing a lousy job, how about a 2 million man and woman march on DC. Not some silly green bus. So please cut it out.

This kind of fraud is not worthy of the labor movement. It is why our labor movement has shrunk beyond belief, in my lifetime. Begging for green jobs.

PROTECT OUR CONSTITUTION FROM THE “RIGHT-WINGERS”

Watch your elected officials on this issue. THE CONSTITUTION.
    GOP “TRANSPARENCY”
    Shaping the Party’s Agenda

GOP “Transparency” Means an Open Meeting with Lobbyists Who Will Shape the Party’s Agenda. Just how many foreigners that will be is yet undetermined. You can be sure AIPAC and associates will be well accounted for in the midst of their continued agenda. Of course we will hear and read all about it from their MEDIA.

Corruption still strong at Party Leadership.

How about a bus tour fighting to get jobs back to our country and keep the good paying jobs from being displaced by the so called green jobs. How many cars do u see parked at a windmill . Look at the coal mine and power plant parking lots. they are full of fords, chevys.dodge auto. made by union brothers and sisters.

How about a bus tour to keep good paying jobs here and not sending overseas. How many cars do u see parked by a windmill. Go by a coal fired power plant and a coal mine and look at all the union made fords, chevys, dodge parked in the lots. Im for green energy but not for destroying the good jobs we have. The problem with enviros is their is no compromise. Coal has kept the lights on in this country for a long time and i will go to my grave fighting like hell to make sure that we continue to burn coal and support UMWA coal miners. We owe them a great deal .

It’s far past the time for the unemployed to march on washington or at the least, the state capitals. It’s time for the afl-cio to be a progresive labour organization and Be more militant. The labour movement gains more when we’re an unstastable alley to the democratic party. In my opinion thou it’s time we give up on them and start our own party. A party for and strictly for the working class.

Wind turbines, solar panels and wave generators all need to be made somewhere. Better to have them made by union workers here than overseas. Union workers installing union made clean energy producing/conserving materials on union constructed homes occupied by union workers.

Hey, I can dream. And its a good dream, not a nightmare.
    Go Blue/Green Alliance!
