Sixth Republican Senator Faces Wisconsin Recall

by Mike Hall, Apr 28, 2011

Wisconsin activists today filed more than 26,000 signatures today to recall the sixth Republican state senator—Robert Cowles of Green Bay—who voted for Gov. Scott Walker’s (R) bill to eliminate collective bargaining rights of public employees.

All the petitions have carried far more signatures than the minimum needed to qualify, which must equal 25 percent of the total vote for governor in November’s election in each Senate district. The Cowles petition needed just 15,960 signatures and the 26,524 represents 166 percent of the requirement.

Along with Cowles, recall petitions have been filed for Alberta Darling of River Hills, Shelia Harsdof of River Falls, Luther Olsen of Ripon, Dan Kapanke of La Crosse and Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac. Democrats need to win three seats to take control of the Senate.

Republicans targeted eight Democratic senators for recall, but filed petitions for just three and those have yet to be verified. They fell short and missed the deadline for four others. They still have a few days to file against their last target.

Good news,But are they going to back Obamas policys of listening to the republican constituancy or rather, those so disconnected from their reality that they form a constiuancy based on the bullshit fear of terrorists and foriegners and hope to gain their security not by working class UNITY but, by winning the lottery of the free exploitative market place and screwing their brothers and sisters? Or think that political action is making sure that a schmuck called Trump gets a placating Obama to show he was born in Hawaii. Im done following Dem. Party, Dem Party needs to follow us.Org. Labor needs to lead and we need to show them how, we’re taking over Sacramento on 5/9-be there AFL.

The American voters have such short memories. How long will it be
before they start voting for the republicans again. The Republicans have
exposed themselves to be the party for big corporations and wall
street. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to realize that if you
are not one of the two precentors you are voting aganist your best
interest. Take off those blinders of prejudice and bigortry and see the
real enemy and its truly not a minority.

More importantly, how can we be sure that, no matter how many votes they get for democratic candidates, 1) every eligible voter will be allowed to vote, 2) every eligible voter will be allowed to register if not already registered, 3) all of those votes will be counted, and 4) some republican hack won’t accidentally discover that the magic number of votes required for the incumbent to keep his seat on his or her computer after the votes have been counted?

And let’s not forget to ensure liberals vote often and many times along with the dead, illegals and other frauds the unions support to buy their way into office so they can continue to pick the taxpayers pocket. It is nice to see the union special citizens are better than other Americans. Will there be a recall of MA democrats that passed the same type legislation to save another bankrupt state? The hypocrisy is incredible.

usecommon sence…Thats a damn lie. When checked to see how many invalid or illegal votes was in the last Presidential election it was extremely minimal.Out of millions of votes 66 was all that was found and over half of these were on the Republican side.In Bush’s seconf run for president, one town in Ohio gave him over 9,000 votes. The population for the town was barely over 6000,but yet the Repuglicons swore there wasn’t any descrepency. Then there’ the CEO’s of the 2 company’s that build the electronic voting machines. One had software built by an electronic engineer with his firm,in Florida, that would flip votes. He reported this to officials after Bush’s first election and got threats on himself and his family.

I don’t understand why you regressive repugnicans have to lie when the left brings up legitimate issues of criminal behavior from your gang member buddies. You must be filled with a terrible amount of hate to make you respond so dishonestly. There is a better way. It’s called honesty. Just let the chips fall where they may and you might find you are actually a progressive.

Wonder if the Koch brothers don”t have their payrollees trying to plant stuff in these comment areas?
Don’t sit and type…get out and participate and above all VOTE OUT SCOTT WALKERS STOOGES. Wish I were a Wisconsonite so I could participate by ballot.
Pay attention to voting records, avoid sloganism and lable politics.
United we bargain…..Devided we beg….devided we fall.

The right-wing Republicans (rwGOP) are intent on devolving our Democratic Republic into fascism and plutarchy. They realize their agenda by using Big Lie, Shock Doctrine, and Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt tactics, rather than by engaging in honest, informed, educated and intelligent dialogue. The rwGOP are nothing more than an anti-American and anti-Christian cult of political thugs.

THE ANTIDOTE: Get informed from primary or independent sources and help prevent America’s collapse from right-wing Republican ideological disconnect from reality.

    See the film, Inside Job.

    The Shock Doctrine — http://www.powells.com/biblio/1-9780312427993-29

In essence, the rwGOP platform is about maniacally returning America to its pre-1930’s condition. This is a dark-age chasm into which the rwGOP plan to push America, blinding once and for all the great vision of America’s founders.

THE ANTIDOTE: Vote the right-wing Republicans out of political existence. That will have by far the greatest positive impact on America, on increasing employment, on reducing the deficit and debt reduction, on our innovation, and on our multi-cultural and social growth.

Support recall campaigns across the nation to remove right-wing Republicans from elected office.

29,000,000 registered voters, who voted for Obama in 2008, did not vote on Nov 2nd, 2010 (stat from Huffington Post). Let’s hope that the rwGOP’s now blatant in-your-face hypocrisy, fraudulence, and false 2010 campaign advertising, as evidenced in their state and U.S. legislative actions, will serve as a wake-up call to all the people who cynically believe their vote doesn’t matter.

Their apathy and cynicism enables right-wing fascism and treason to take root in America.

Contact721…I agree with your post 100%.The right wing nut Duche Baggers and Repiglicons are trying their best to put our nation into a form of communist government.Take people rights, kill unions, give more and more tax breaks to the rich and corporate America, outsource more jobs, build more factories and plants in other county’s and leave American workers with a pink slip.To make up for the lost tax revenues they’re taking it off the backs of hard working honest Americans.Their idea of middle income starts at$250k up to one million per year. Average Americans making $50k or less is no more than dirt under their feet. It’s time all Democrats and Independents voted in every election against any and all Repiglicons and Douche Baggers.

All Americans needs to take a strong stand for workers rights and stop playing around with our children future. Wal-Mart is the major contributor in American workers being mistreated so easily in this nation. We must unite and get totally involved to stop this trend or our nation is doomed. I have been fighting a ghostly battle with Wal-Mart MIke Duke who cares nothing about responding to Managers valid questions or Title VII of the Civil Rights Act or the 1991 Civil Rights Act. Apparently its all a big fat joke to them. But in the end we the people will win! Keep it strong and lets all stick together. Join a union today and pay for the bird on your front door step. Just keeping it almost real. George Boston Rhynes http://kvci.blogspot.com

    Great activism, fellow workers.

The next chore is getting pie cards to lead, follow or get out of the way. Coffied and manicured suits and ties purporting to be national labor leaders are far behind the ranks and file.

If workers in just five key industries walked out, the profit stream for free-market neoliberals would be halted. That, and only that is what scares the investing class.

Shutting down auto, aerospace, trucking, railroad, shipping, and telecommunications would bring commerce to a halt. Oh sure, politicians and corporatists would run to the courts seeking relief from our demand for social and economic justice for all, but so what? Sure they would threaten us with heavy fines, but so what? Our response to them would be “go pound sand, America is not going back to work until social and eonomic justice for all is guaranteed!”

“…for all” is the key. We will not attract the dispossessed and downtrodden unless the call for justice includes them. The movement cannot just be about getting more for union members, it must be about getting justice for everyone.

We have certain human rights. They have nothing to do with reigning supreme over all the creatures on land, in the sea, or in the air. It just has to do with being part of the homo sapiens species. That’s it! That’s the price of admission to receive human rights!

    • A job paying family sustaining wages
    • Guaranteed health care
    • Affordable housing
    • Access to a quality education
    • Security in retirement
    • Time for leisure

Who would dare say that some workers are entitled to jobs paying family-sustaining wages and some are not; that some should be eligible for health care and some not; ditto for housing, school, senior years, or the wherewithal to take a vacation now and then?

The immediate task, however, is moving labor-faking pie cards out of the way in order for practitioners of democratic principles to assume leadership positions.

Smoothed-palmed, cologne wearing, business-unionists pulling down 10 – 15 times more in wages than the average rank and filer will attempt to dissuade such a movement. They will say it is “radical”.

Since when is social and economic justice “radical”? The labor faking crowd has been steering America’s working class for the past forty years. How has that worked out for us?

We need a general strike to win justice. Pie cards, politicians, and neoliberal are counting on us not having the guts to pull one off.

Rich A – your comments are brilliant. The very existence of unions in our country is being directly threatened. If we cannot succeed in turning our unions into democratic’ fighting organizations of struggle capable of inspiring and leading in mass action not only our members, but all of the oppressed and disposessed across the land, than our unions will go the way of the dinosaurs, and they should. Me-first, screw-the-rest right wing and bureaucratic unionism has led us into this ravine, and only militant, 1930′s industrial unionism can get us out. IF we can not launch our only independent Labor Party, then we deserve to have to beg hat-in-hand for crumbs from the lackeys of the rich in the ‘Democratic’ Party that we are silly enough to call our ‘representatives’.
