No Jobs in Budget Deal
Where are the jobs? Not in the budget agreement reached over the weekend and passed 269-161 last night by the House. The budget deal, which the Senate passed moments ago, is bad for our country and especially bad for working people. It undermines the nation’s ability to solve the real crisis—America’s jobs crisis.
The deal hurts working families by:
- Not making the smart public investments we desperately need to restore America’s place in the world.
- Cutting programs that are helping working families keep a toehold on the ladder to the middle class while refusing to hold hedge fund managers and other millionaires and billionaires responsible for paying their fair share.
- Virtually ensuring that Congress will spend another four months focused on budget-cutting instead of jobs and investment in the future. This means the fight to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid has just begun.
The imbalanced budget deal is a product of extortion by House Republicans and is out of step with the American people—and is even more right wing, in fact, than the average Republican.
The House has already left town. Maybe when members of Congress get back home, and away from the Washington bubble, they’ll listen to the working people in their states and districts. Because what they’ll hear is that job creation is at the top of their agenda. When asked in a poll last week whether Congress and the president should focus on the federal budget deficit or jobs, 67 percent of the public say jobs. Listen up, lawmakers.

Goddamnit, I am ready to go to war I am not kidding I will bleed for the cause it is sad that we americans are all so passive. I feel like alZawarey, it is time to raise a bloody war against oppression. It aint gonna be eazy but we need to use force to get this country back again. The Illuminati has GOT TO GO!
We need a more rational, politically-astute manner of obtaining Democracy, Quazar ! ! !
Do not kick holes in the life boat’s hull in anger for not being provided with oars!
Only through Democracy will we obtain the lifestyle we wish to have! And Democracy requires honesty and knowledge and dedication to justice, not tirades of angst! This is a chess-game-like strategy because it is WE THE PEOPLE who have FORFEITED our nation’s Democracy by our public refusing to participate in the political process!!! THAT is why The Establishment has gotten away with all of this! They think we don’t care enough to act like US natizens!!!
Way to go you mealy-mouthed, spineless wimp!
Give the Bastards exactly what they want… a weak, cowering, ‘please-talk-to-me-master’ populous! When are you going to get it through your head that talking and pleading, bargaining and begging has not worked and will not work as long as the control of Government and Financial Institutions are firmly and totally in the fists of The Fed and International corporations? LIBRIS FIDELIS… THAT’S YOUR HANDLE? what a JOKE!
You need to take a course in critical reasoning, EdinWaState, your counter-productive irrationality is completely ignorant of what is going on.
You also need to study the Gambian Peace Process and what Mahatma Gahndi said about peaceful stead-fast exercise of Democracy!
If all you have to offer, Ed, is irate emantic abortions of irrational tirade, then you are always going to kick holes in the hull of the lifeboat and eat up all of the survival food in one day! That is what you are accomplishing.
We need SANE, KNOWLEDGEABLE, INTELLECTUAL strategy here, not destructively selfish irrationality.
Here’s something else in defense of my character that I previously posted, EDinWAstate, as you refer to me as being “…Way to go you mealy-mouthed, spineless wimp!:

Well, I disagree about this “revolutionary” stuff.
The labor cause must take on a strong, strict “chess game” mentality. And that requires intelligence, dedication, and wisdom.
The elements that remain to be addressed by labor is first of all not letting their employers escape having their inhumane anti-Democracy attitudes be publically expressed by the workers and their union.
Then second of all, the legal entities that prohibit fair treatment of workers, that literally enslave workers to abuse by the legal system, also needs to be publically expressed.
These are the “stage” for further actions.
Unions must represent their members by DEFENDING their members to community, local, regional, state and federal governments as a direct grievance that is not merely “complaining” about how government “sides” with unscrupulous employers, but insisting on honest treatment by our various levels of government rather than being further victimized.
I know this sounds just as ineffective as laying “peacefully … down and act like chumps”, but, like I say, public support MUST be influenced by strategic means, so that the abuses of low-pay and terrible working conditions work on the consciousness of the public.
This strategy needs to be developed, of course, but I firmly endorse the Gambian Peace Process and the Gahndian peaceful form of protest. But it must be strategically applied! All labor participants must be “on the same page” for their civil conduct and the message their action is promoting.
Oh… and Libris Fidelis is NOT my “handle”, it’s my legal name.

republican don’t listen to the american workers they don’t care all they do is protect the rich they sign a agreement with grover nogest not to rise taxes this is treason against the american people they are supose to work for the people who elected them into office not just one group of people the american need to rise up against the republican party put them out of the business of working for the rich we need jobs not a super commitee with a trigger that will kick in and take over if no agreement is reach which will tank the poor, working poor and middle class workers of the economy as well as seniors the democrat’s and the president are so weak they don’t stand-up for the workers they let the republican bullies just walk over them like door-mats the president doesn’t negotiate he just rolls over and gives them everything they don’t respect him they see him as weak it’s like the indians have surrounded the fort and the soldier’s protecting the fort left the gate open some of them may need not to be re-elected and lasted of all this is a manufacture crisis not real all they had to do is sent a clean debt-ceiling bill to the president to sign but no they want to hold the country hostage just to keep the rich from paying and make it harder to get the economy going and growing jobs
Oh, they care a LOT, Josie ! ! ! They care about setting up TYRANNY and controlling our SOCIETY to make their COMMERCIAL SCAM work in only THEIR favors ! ! ! And that means telling “We the people” to obey!!!!
There is NO ROOM for honesty and good will in the Repugnican commercial-ommunist mafia cult syndicate, because the Repugnican mafia is an ANTI-DEMOCRACY CRIME SYNDICATE ! ! !
The token Democrat who sheds crocodile tears for the working class is a wolf in sheeps clothing and only a ruse to keep the rubes pulling the donkeys tale at election time. The Obama Administration and the entire Congress and Senate have jobs to do – protect capitalism. We can begin to correct the problem by dumping the pro-Democratic labor traitors who run the labor movement for capital and build a fighting workers party that will struggle for a workers’ government. We built and we should run it and we better have before the failed capitalist system destroys everything we have built and struggled for.
Hear, Hear, Frisco Worker!!!
This is what I have been posting on news sites covering the debt ceiling negotiations… laying the blame where it belongs!
“How many countless thousands of Americans have had their finances DESTROYED while these EVIL Repugnicans play their dirty games? They prolonged the high unemployment, lengthened the foreclosure crisis and delayed Obama’s recovery attempts irreparably hurting our citizens, myself included. Look up “swiftboating” and “astroturfing” on wikipedia to see the UNCONSCIONABLE acts this party routinely does to hurt this country’s citizens and our economy.
VOTE THESE EVIL BUMS OUT OF OFFICE, NOW!
DON’T LET YOUR CHILDREN GROW UP TO BECOME REPUBLICANS!
THINK, OR OUR NATION WILL BE RUINED BY THESE HORRID IDIOTS!”
We could put millions of Americans back to work tomorrow at no cost, these new tax payers would go a long wat towards balancing the budget. How to do this?
1) Boot the illegals! 7-8 million illegal aliens are doing non-farm jobs that Americans would love to do, for a fair wage. The illegals, and their employers, are aldo depressing the wages of millions, trashing our standard of living and reducing tax revenue. Millions of dollars are being send out of the country by illegals, further harming our economy.
2) End “Free Trade Fundamentalism”! All of those jobs in China , Mexico, India etc used to be done here, by tax paying Americans. Dumping “free” trade in favor of “fair” trade would add millions of jobs, and those folks would be tax payers, not users of government benefits.
You got that straight, VDunsworth!!!
The only reason why “US workers don’t want those jobs” is because those jobs do not pay a living wage! Without illegal trespassers in our nation, the farms and factories those illegals flock to for employment would have to raise their wages to attract workers!
There once was a sizable farm and factory labor force in this country that was staffed by US natizens and legal immigrants, but the illegal trespassers has eliminated any need for employers to pay a decent wage and provide a safe working environment.
And if those illegal workers get injured???? Those “employers” can pass an anonymous hint to ICE and get them shipped out at no expense to the employer… who also does not need to pay the illegal his or her last week’s wages!!!
God Damn It, Why don’t you stop covering for Obama. Ofcourse, Boehner and the Republicans are pushing fascist austerity, but it was Obama that called for cuts in Social Security and Medicaid.
Please stop it!
You are doing working people a great disservice when you keep making it a partisan issue. IT IS NOT. The Republican leadership works for Wall Street. Obama works for Wall Street and International Banking interests, like George Soros.
What you are no telling your readers is that this deal is unconstitutional. The Congress handed off its powere to a 13 man committee: 6 Democratic Congressmen, 6 Republicans and Obama.
So stop the BS!
Right on Theodore: this isn’t about parties, we’ve been sold out by the Wall Street faction controlling the Dems and the Repubs, AND Obama most emphatically. This ‘supercongress’ is as Huffington called it: a copy of Hitler’s Enabling Act. An unelected committee of 12, mandated to cut $2.5 trillion, by November, with no ability to amend, filibuster, or prevent?! Genocide, by the stroke of a pen, is no less a crime against humanity than genocide done with gas chambers and concentrations camps.
Where was the afl cio the past 4 years when Pelosi and Ried controled the house and senate totally ? when the housing problem started 2 years before president bush left office , He went to Barney Frank in congress and senator Dodd in the senate and asked for a investigation on the way loans were being written and the signs of the system begining to fail , they both refused him to have a investigation , the afl cio should have brought all the issues out when the power was in there reach , now they want to kick the can and blame it on the GOP … this sickening !
What happened to all the jobs from obama , pelosi and reid ? and the progessive socailist democarts , there not the real democartic party at all , they had 4 years and obama 2 years , while obama was creating 10,000 government jobs a moth and every month there after building more government and more taxes and no jobs to pay for taxes , but just borrowing more money , now for every dollar we spend 43 cents goes to what is borrowed , this is no way to run a great country like america .. no jobs after spending 5 trillion dollars , what happened , they put the money back into the hands of the people who created this depression , we live by a constitution and pobama lives by the will of man and his will of socailist view being from the progressive socails democartic party and theats what progessive means ! many union member see and feel the same way i do but fear retaliation in the work place goes with the afl cio ! we are going deep’er and possible double dip recession … we need to creat jobs in america and so far nothing has been done and they fight the gop tooth and nail and have no written plan to the recent budget , obama has failed in his leadership to run america .
The labor movement needs it’s own television/cable station to educate and inform the general public…
The Republican party has Fox News…
The Democrata have NBC
The Labor Movement has the AFL-CIO Blogs/website and tweeter and I appreciated but is not working at informing and educating the average worker out in the real world…
Okay… I’m pissed, I’m mad as hell and I feel like I’m all alone on an island that is sinking and I’m helpless to stop it! The only thing I can do is to write stupid, ineffective and meaningless letters to blogs like this one, call and email my congress people and hope that Senator Bernie Sanders runs for President… (which he already said he won’t do). ‘Quazar’ (first comment) is absolutely correct and I only have one question to ask the AFL-CIO and the rest of the readers here… when will the takeover of this country be severe enough for you and me to get up off our collective arses and FIGHT BACK? I mean ‘CALL-OUT-THE-NATIONAL GUARD-fighting back! If big business can rally the nut-jobs of the Tea Party and get stupid stooges elected to congress… WHY-THE-HELL CAN’T WE DO THE SAME and kick the know-nothing bastards out? Are we afraid to get our hands dirty? Are we afraid to go to jail? Are we so afraid that our lives will be upset that we are willing to sit, do nothing and take it in the shorts? When will it stop? If not now… when? Obama and company pulled the greatest con job on the American people that this country has ever seen! The New World Order is hampered only by the working class peoples around the world and especially the American working class (which is diminishing faster than in any other country). If the New World Order is to be… we, the workers of the world, should be at the table in force! Our elected, political parties have already proved, over and over, that they are out to destroy labor and reduce the USA to a third world nation. Are we going to allow them to trample us under their hob-nail boots or are we going to fight for everything that we believe is great about this country? The time for talk is quickly ebbing; the time for action is at hand. So, what will it be America? Turn the other ass-cheek again and again until there is no ass left to kick or do we organize, organize, ORGANIZE and assault the criminals, physically, morally and politically, who have so systematically assaulted us? Wake up and smell the burning! That sucking sound you hear is the Statue of Liberty sinking into New York harbor!
I am not sure Bernie Sanders is any panacea. In order to succeed in politics, one must be able to build coalitions. Sanders is an “outsider” not part of the RULING Establishment. Sanders has not built his coalition yet, and that will take several years of very difficult, strenuous contacting and relation-building effort.
What has he done to “connect” with labor and with liberal progressives? What has he done to educate the non-Establishment VOTING public? I am not criticizing him, but this is the same as with Green Party which has the best party platform and Ten Key Values in our country — if only Green Party would live up to those values! The same is with Sanders, the EFFORT must be made and there must be self-enforcing integrity mechanisms in the platform in order to succeed in winning a coalition.
Has Sanders done that yet? Sanders would do better to become a Green Party member and then to work on reforming Green Party — if Green Party will let him do that! Green Party certainly did not like my interfering in their internal Green Party heirarchy anti-Green Party Establishment system when I tried to get reforms to enhance Green Party’s political standing in our nation!
The people are being overwhelmed by big ,corporate run government. What is wrong with “we the people”? We are giving them control of our lives. We must put more real pressure on these incompetent big bank puppets we call Congress andThe Supreme Court. We have to get big business out of our legislature. Repeal the Fed Reserve Act, make pork barrel legislation illegal. make English our official language, form an election fund from public and corporate levy that goes into a fund to give each candisate equal money. We must limit terms of all public office in the same manor as the Presidency. Drastic pay cuts and no insuranc and retirement . Congress makes enough to pay for their own IRA and Medical Ins. We must stop this onslaugt of big biz America telling us how to live and crushing our dollar. Why hasn’r Goldman Sachs been brought be fore a senate hearing on their actions.Does everybody know how much they make from poor economy? This game has gone to far. Illegal or unethical ,no single or group entity should be able to effect our entire economy in suc h a manor. No Congress should be enept enough to be lead by the nose as the last two Congresses. It is their charge to run the country and keep us secure. Who is guarding your borders? Big business wants these illegal ; let them feed ,birth and jail them. WE have been duped by high paid incompetent leaders. They bicker like rabid dogs over a killl while our economy dives. Why not spark thec ec onomy by pulling out our troops and our money from all foriegn combat zones and dropping it into the infrastruture that is so badly in need of repair? Millions of jobs would be generatedby just that move alone.
No sir, I am a patriot and a veteran. I do not accept big brother running my life.I ewill revolt as Thomas Jefferson Suggests in our Declaration of Independence; When the government no longer serves the people then it is time to form a new government ,for the people and by the people. This is what our uncorrupted
Constitution sdtands for and the promise of freedom for all. I believe this to be UNDER GOD and the ACLU can go hang. We may have to fight to get what we are entitled to because this is what happens when Corporations run our government. A Congressman should be a statesmen not a money grubbing yes man for the very concerns that are gouging us without mercy ie,fuel ,bank and government cartels, Insurance and drug companies and the whole health industry. Pass a law that our official language is Enlish and you will and we can save billions in double printing and signs. No signs in German or French,so why Spanish? God save and restore my Country! Get angry America!
We did not get any jobs in this deal. We were told over and over that we have to sacrifice. Big corporations and the wealthy were not asked to contribute anything, Any thing asked of them would not be a sacrifice,
We have been told the U.S. is broke , and the credit rating has been downgraded.
I have a problem with the U.S. being broke and us needing to sacrifice, when just today (8/9/11) , the president gave 105 million dollars to somewhere in Africa, and not too long ago , gave 25 million somewhere else. Where is this money coming from, if we are in such dire straits , that American citizens are being told they need to sacrifice? I don’t believe the U.S. , should be giving money to any countries. We cannot afford this luxury, and I don’t hear any other country stepping up to help us overcome our problems. Let China , and Saudi Arabia and other wealthy countries provide those funds.
When I can’t afford groceries , and can’t pay my bills , I don’t give money I don’t have away
