Professors Say GOP Bill to Cripple NLRB ‘Unprecedented’ Assault
House Republicans are pushing a bill to cripple the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) because the agency filed a routine complaint against Boeing. Now, some 250 university law and labor policy professors warn that if a bill (H.R. 2587) becomes law,
employers will be able to eliminate jobs or transfer employees or work for no purpose other than to punish employees for exercising their rights and the Board will be powerless to direct the employer to return the work regardless of the circumstances.
The NLRB charges that Boeing moved production away from its Washington State facility in retaliation for the workers exercising their right to strike, and that’s against the law.
Following the complaint, congressional Republicans, tea party extremists and business groups launched what AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka called a “political and ideological circus” to vilify the NLRB and distort its actions.
The letter to House members—authored by University of Texas law professor Jack Getman—says H.R. 2587 is not only “unprecedented interference with a pending legal proceeding for the benefit of a particular employer,” but would
eliminate the ability of the NLRB and the courts to effectively remedy any discriminatorily motivated decision to transfer work from employees or eliminate their jobs not for legitimate business reasons, but because the employees have engaged in union or other NLRA protected activity. It will also eliminate any meaningful remedy for an employer’s refusal to bargain with a union in circumstances where it is required to do so before transferring or contracting out work performed by workers the union represents.
The House is scheduled to vote on the bill Thursday. Click here for the full letter.

Bravo to the Republicans! The voice of Big Business is at least bold enough, has the balls, to see that our leadership is a bunch of phony, ‘non-struggle’ poseurs, and launch such a brazen attack. If only we could learn from their example, and stand and fight! But no – we are yoked to the enemy via the ‘Democratic’ Party, and thus can only bleat like sheep on the way to slaughter.
.
Well, that’s all true, William, in your political satirization, and it is all the fault of We The People for letting The Establishment (which comprises NOT ONLY big business but also the international cartels of wealthy elite persons and their groups) infiltrate our government and take over our social economic system such that we are naming everything (buildings, freeways, sports arenas, parks, damns) after corporations and after tyrants like Ronald Ray-gunz.

Our country REFUSES to support Democracy !!!!!!!!
Your comment reminds me of how dangerous the average IQ is. Our problem is that our leadership, regardless of “party”, is owned, controlled and funded by the wealthy and corporate predators who prey on the good and moral people of, not only America, but the world. Party think is stink think! If you think that you are immune to the ravages of these rapist of our freedoms, rights and economic health, you are one naive idiot and probably have an IQ lower than average. You obviously have no critical thinking skills, a very poor understanding of American and World history, and no grasp of the psychology of man and his evil bent. You should read Naomi Klein’s book “The Shock Doctrine: Disaster Capitalism”
and John Perkins book “The Confessions of an Economic Hit Man”. I apologize for publicly addressing your ignorance in such a negative, offensive manner, but when you publicly demonstrate that fact then you invite such responses.
And let me note that “you” do not have to be yoked to a “party”! You can be active for causes and advocate for good through a vast array of interest groups. Next time you post, add some verifiable facts or offer a critically reasoned position on an issue instead of the emotionally laden words and garbage that demagogues use to manage and influence people by appealing to their ignorance, biases, prejudices, hatreds and mindless affiliations with political parties!
Read the books!
I won’t be around to see it but, LABOR PARTY! That is the only way the American workers will be able to control their destinies.
I’m surprised they don’t just introduce a bill striking down the NLRA. Just get it over with.
Then again I don’t expect much from a nation founded and chartered by corporations, slavers and religious extremists. Despite the Trente Glouriouses, nothing much has changed.
