At 12:01 A.M., Wisconsin Workers Launched Walker Recall
![]() |
From a midnight pajama party in a Madison bar to a rally in front of Gov. Scott Walker’s (R) Wauwatosa home, thousands of Wisconsin volunteers kicked off the official signature gathering period to put Walker’s recall before the voters next year. Recall forces now have 60 days to gather some 540,000 signatures.
At the pajama party, where participants were set for action at this morning’s official 12:01 a.m. start of the signature gathering clock, Erik Kirkstein, a spokesman for United Wisconsin, told The Badger Herald:
The people of Wisconsin have been waiting for this for months. This is the culmination of citizens all across the state, and we can’t wait to recognize them and start [the recall] off on the right track.
The broad recall coalition, which includes the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO, brings together the same citizen energy that fueled working families’ win in Ohio last week. By an overwhelming 61 percent margin, voters overturned Gov. John Kasich’s S.B. 5, which eliminated the collective bargaining rights of public employees.
Anger over Walker’s elimination of the rights of nurses, teachers and other public workers to bargain for a middle-class life was the driving force behind this summer’s successful recalls of two of Walker’s key backers in the state Senate. Now, says Wisconsin State AFL-CIO President Phil Neuenfeldt:
Working families in Ohio went to the polls and voted to support Ohio’s public employees and their right to collectively bargain. Unlike Ohio, Wisconsin workers do not have the opportunity to put a referendum on the ballot. Thankfully, we have the right to recall. [The] win in Ohio has energized and excited Wisconsin workers to recall Gov. Walker and put a stop to his attack on working families.
Along with Walker’s attack on workers, Wisconsin voters also are upset at Walker’s drastic budget cuts and lack of job creation, says Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Stephanie Bloomingdale.
In order for Wisconsin to have a strong middle class, we need to change direction. Over 65,000 Wisconsinites, half of them children, are being kicked off Medicaid; 40 percent of our children’s classrooms are increasing in size; working families are being made scapegoats for budget situations they didn’t create and family-supporting jobs are not being created at the rate Wisconsinites expect. This is not the Wisconsin way and the citizens of the state have taken it upon themselves to change course.

I hope he is recalled and the democrats take over and raise taxes on the working people who pay for the public employees.
You mean the same people who pay taxes to have the roads you drive on built or repaired? Those who pay taxes in order that you will have a police dept. to call if you need help? Or maybe a Fire Dept. to call if you need someone to put out the fire on your house?
I swear to god… Some people are totally without morals, ethics, or brains.
You are correct. The democrats prove it every day. Of course a lot of Republicans are in that Big government camp and want to tell you how to live. Of course we want public employees to have barganing rights and let their dues go to the Democrats. It just so fair. Grow up boy.
sweartogod helps us remember that not everyone agrees with us and that is why we need to get out the VOTE of those who do. Wisconsin GOP take over and their anti-labor leaders energised the rest of us to get off our comfortable chairs and go to work. In a sense, the GOP shot at labor, last February, was the “shot heard around the world” and will energize us for 2012 and put spirit into the occupy Wall Street Movement. As the tents come down, around the country, for “Occupy Wall Street”, Petition Tables should be going up to fix those loopholes that are sending jobs overseas and keeping wages low.
I am for unions . I am not for payoffs. Can you not see the conflict of interest? No wonder Roosevelt and Meaney were against public unions. Vote for me and I will rip off the taxpayers and you can get better benefits then those other poor slobs working for private industry. You people are corrupt.
Yes, Cussbreath, if the Democrats raise taxes it will be to pay off our debts and to fund necessary humanitarian programs for our people.
UNLIKE the insane and irresponsible anti-US political party called the Repugnant corporate-commercial mafia cult Party which CUTS TAXES AND INCREASES GOVERNMENT SPENDING THROUGH STARTING WARS AND EXPANDING GOVERNMENT FOR ANTI-TERRORISM DEPARTMENTS TO FACE THE WRATH WE CAUSE IN OTHER COUNTRIES FOR THEIR HATRED OF OUR COUNTRY’S OUT-OF-CONTROL CORPORATE EMPIRE BUILDING WHICH INFILTRATES AND SABOTAGES THEIR DOMESTIC CULTURE AND ECONOMY AND POLITICAL SYSTEMS !!!!!
Scott Walker should be unemployed.
And don’t you just relish that movie theater markee that says:
“GOV SCOTT WALKER
STARRING IN
TOTAL RECALL”
I LOVE THAT SIGN !!!! AND IT LIGHTS UP AT NIGHT !!!!
As a broadcaster of KDHX Radio in Saint Louis said during the 2004 election over the radio:
Everyone who is going to vote Democratic turn on your headlights when you drive during the daytime…
…and everyone who is going to vote Republican turn off your headlights when you drive during the night!
Why is it not jail time for this influence peddler? I thought it was against the law for politico.s to take money or presents from the public .He ( Walker ) should serve fifty years .
progresso on, scott walker is going to be unemployed.
sweartogod is a rightwing troll. He gets on virtually every blog to denigrate, slander, and smear progressives. Why would anybody as out of sympathy with labor unions register on this AFL site, unless it is to annoy and harrass?
I’VE SEEN OTHERS LIKE SWEARTOWHO GET ON OTHER WEB PAGES DOING THE SAME THING. HE’S A LOW LIFE LOUSY AHOLE WITHOUT A CLUE. HE SPOUTS HIS BS TRYING TO ANNOY PEOPLE. BEST THING FOR EVERYONE ON HERE IS TO DISREGARD,AVOID AND DON’T READ HIS FACIST REMARKS.
And let us also not fail to recognize that Cussbreath and those of his ilk are UNPATRIOTIC and are COUNTER-DEMOCRACY in FAVOR of political tyranny such as the Repugnant Party advocates and conspires to inflict upon our nation.
unionbrat, he (Walker) may become unemployed but he’ll be a millionaire. He’ll do anything the Koch brothers tell him to do. To heck with the people he is suppose to serve. What a piece of work–this is what the devil looks like.
GO WISCONSIN!! Get rid of this jerk.
Hey sweartogod, move to China!
I have a better place to send Cussbreath, and Goering Warcrimes Bush and his father George H. W. Bush and Rush Limbaugh and Ayn Rand and dig up Ronald Ray-gunz and Richard Nixon’s coffins and ship them all to ANTARCTICA !!!! That is an appropriate place for them all, and that might freeze hell over, too !!!
Time to get rid of Walker… and the Democrats!
You mean you want to get rid of everybody? Once Walker is gone and you get rid of the Democrats, who do you want to elect, socialists? teapartiers? libertarians? anarchists? Or will you step up and run thins yourself?
We are not sure what you are saying Minnisota 1934. What we need is for We The People to TAKE BACK OVER the Democratic Party from The Establishment, and then to reform it into a practicing organization for People’s Democracy for the first time in its history !!! THAT is what we need to do with the Democratic Party, and that means pressing to OUTLAW the anti-Democracy Caucus system and kick out and end the Super Delegates which have more authority than the “mere” regular delegates. That is the start of a new Democratic Democracy-practicing Party.
things
While I believe that Walker is low-life and should not be in office, I wonder how you can recall Walker without an alternative candidate? Who will take over as governor if he is recalled…. the Lt. Governor? Who is he/she?
Unfortunately, Ladydian is absolutely correct. Many corrupt people gain political positions for the purpose of setting themselves up for obscene financial gain after leaving office. I have no doubt this is Walker’s goal. He couldn’t care less about the average Wisconsinite. This is the kind of person we need to prevent from winning future elections by broadcasting the truth and VOTING for their opponent.
Fight the good fight, get rid of Walker, return the state of WI to the People. People need to understand how much was sacrificed by so many to get a living wage, holidays, health care, workplace safety and a host of other workers rights we enjoy…all brought by Unions, NOT by corporations and the Robber barons of yesterday and today.
Perhaps if some of those who posted here worked 12 hour days at 45 cents per hour, they might realize just how stupid they are to think corporations would be their “friends.”
