Demand Strong Mortgage Abuse Settlement with Big Banks

by Mike Hall, Jan 10, 2012

Tell your state attorney general to demand real accountability from the Big Banks for the collapse of the housing market by clicking here. The action, sponsored by the AFL-CIO community affiliate, Working America, comes as state and federal officials are negotiating a settlement with the Big Banks for their role in driving the U.S. economy into a ditch and often recklessly defrauding consumers seeking mortgages.

The wreckage in the wake of the banks’ actions includes 7.5 million home foreclosures with another 4.8 million teetering on the brink.

It’s time hold those banks accountable, but news reports say the proposed settlement may amount to nothing more than a slap on the wrist. California’s attorney general withdrew from the negotiations in September because he said the proposed terms failed to provide sufficient relief to the state’s homeowners and released the banks from too many claims.

Any settlement must reflect the harm done to homeowners and provide large-scale relief for homeowners.

What it looks like to me is: These bankers, attoney generals, judges, and some politicians all seem to members of a certain group of people who are not going to prosecute each other for any wrong doings. I wonder what they call themselves?

RI-I-I-I-i-i-ight… Swearto… let yourself let the financial scammers off the hook!

Let us put the blame squarely where it belongs… the public ALLOWED these financial scams to perpetrate, and it was only recently that an Occupy Wall Street finally manifested from at least SOME public discontent with the way financial extortion is going on with our political, legal, and financial Establishment!

If We The People would stop acting like a bunch of communist children and instead would demand Democracy, we would have a Democracy that would not tolerate these conspiracies being committed by the financial business Establishment!

After all, weren’t drunk drivers only given a slap on the wrist until the public spoke up and demanded accountability for the mayhem they cause? This all is a nice thought, but would anybody in office today have the courage to break up the big corporate trusts the way Teddy Roosevelt did at the turn of the last century? Would like to hope so but nobody seems to have the courage. For that matter I would like to see some of these retail behemoths broken up as well.

Does this condone a plea bargain? I want the worms to squirm.

Politicians respond to lobbyists with money. Investment bankers caused and are continuing this mess and they are enabled by our politicians.

You mentioned LOBBYISTS!!! funny, I think they should be made completly ill-legal!! they are nothing but legal bribers and our politicians are corrupt enough without someone edging them on for special interest groups!! this policy of Lobbyist does nothing but open the door for corruption!!!

Without lobbyists Godlman Sachs (and others)
would simply write and hand out the checks as they did before reformers required lobbyists to register.
