Which Is Better? Prison or Work at China’s Foxconn?

by Tula Connell, Jan 18, 2012

Stumping for president, Republican candidates have finally figured out that the public cares more about job creation than deficit reduction. But their solutions involve luring corporations back to this country from overseas by eliminating regulatory policies that could make working conditions here a lot more similar to those offshore. A recent Jon Stewart segment shows just what that would entail.

Pointing to recent news reports that describe the slave-like conditions at China’s Foxconn factory, where 800,000 workers make iPhones, iPads, Kindles and most other Apple products, Stewart notes that most Apple products are made in China,

the Communist country where corporations get the respect they deserve.

So, to compete with China, Stewart continues,

we’ve got to make our factories look more like this Foxconn.

At Foxconn,

  • Employees live in dormatories eight to a room…often roommates, though, won’t know each other’s names.
  • A worker described assembling a part 5,200 times a day.
  • Employees can work 35 hours straight.
  • Until recently, workers were paid 31 cents an hour.
  • A growing number of workers are killing themselves, or trying to. The company installed nets around buildings to try and catch “jumpers.”

And, if a Foxconn workers try to improve their dire working and living conditions by seeking to join a union, they get 12-year prison sentence.

Or, as Stewart asks about Foxconn versus prison:

What’s the difference?

Hey Hotcom! Would I prefer to live where I would be guaranteed quality Healthcare at low or no COST? Unemployment Insurance at 80% of my full wage as long as I’m unemployed? Paid Parental leave for up to a year? Paid home assistance for disabled workers and new Moms? Paid attendance in a Trade School or FREE College Education with a stipend for selected needed degrees like PHDs, Drs., Educators and Engineers? Union scale wages and job protection throughout most of the economy? Up to a month or more of paid Vacation each year? A guaranteed PENSION that can’t be stolen by a Corporation? Guaranteed retirement housing?

The ASSURANCE that my KIDS will do better than me?

The PRIDE that belonging to a country that VALUES my CITIZENSHIP as more important than ensuring ever larger Corporate Profits to CEOs?

No doubt about it that ALL of those EUROPEAN SOCIALIST COUNTRIES that provide those benefits to their citizens, and have about the same tax rates, or a little more on the middle class, and a LOT more on the RICH, are a much better place to live then this bullshit laden Country!
You see the DIFFERENCE between us and them is that we have this USELESS DEFENSE Budget that we are burdened with that can’t keep assholes from flying Airplanes into buildings or pound a stone age Nation into submission after 10 FREAKING YEARS!

What is so ironic about this post, is it shows that monetary capitalists NEED socialism/communism in order to function, in order to make the money they are so addicted to. Whereas the USA under president Franklin Roosevelt was not a {monetary} capitalism but a {physical} capitalism: society was organized around being more productive physically, rather than making more money for the bond holders, irregardless of the physical costs to society. And unfortunately, both the democrats and republicans today are monetary capitalists, long having forgotten the principles of FDR or Lincoln.

The leaders of China are nothing but the childern of fallen angels. Jesus said it is better for them if they were never born.

I don’t know WHY…. after the news media revealed A HALF DECADE AGO… that the news media deliberately excludes their investigated facts that INDUSTRY IN CHNA IS ONWED BY THE CHINESE MILITARY LEADERS !!!!!!!

Now do you know why working in their factories is so harsh? China executes 4,000 people every year without so much as a genuine trial. Many of the condemned are marched directly out of the hearing to their deaths in a field, shot in the back of their heads without their relatives even knowing about it, and with no appeal being allowed!

That is China. And I would be willing to imagine that OUR OWN corporations could go back to the English practice of hanging union organizers for their work, which practice in England continued into the late 1890s.

The similarities between communism and fascism is well know, so the things the Republican Party and Communist China have in common should come as no surprise.

This is exactly what the bought and paid for Douche Baggers and RepigliKKKONS,in government, from state to federal level want the workers in our nation to be,the same as Chinese workers. If a Repig does get elected President we can damn sure look for the sob to sign any bill that comes to his desl to outlaw labor unions. They want a huge slave labor work force with wages to match. No benefits, less than $5 per hr wages and no benefits. If their quota of work isn’t met they’ll be fored. If it is met the quota will be raised.Wages won’t go up but demand for more work will go up. We’ll be in a Plutonomy government, politicians bought and paid for by the filthy rich and Wall St. firms run our economy.

Is it just me, or is the company’s name – Foxconn – extremely apt?

And still, people will patronize walsmart and other outfits that make billions off chinese imports. I have been in one walsmart in my life. And, that was because they were the only store in town that had what I wanted. I felt dirty anyway. So. let the stg’s and the hc’s talk about capitalism, although it it only because of an absolute dictatorship that walsmart and other union-busting, wage-stealing and job killing stores thrive.

I think conservaties want all workers to live and work like
    Foxcom workers in China do.

Bikini28 and others here say GIMME! GIMME! GIMME! I WANT FREE STUFF! Yet if corporations want to make as much money as possible they’re EVIL. The fact is everyone wants the best for themselves and their families. The question is what are we willing to sacrifice to get it? We all know that large corps don’t care about their workers but do we? I think anytime we buy a product from China in order to save MONEY we are endorsing slavery. I’m guilty of it too…but from now on I’m going to be more circumspect. We can’t change the world by demanding others do the changing…We have to make the change, then have others – our friends and relatives – follow our example.
