Walker’s State of the State Rings Hollow to Many Wisconsinites

This is a cross-post by Karen Hickey, communications director at the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO.

Amid John Doe investigations into former staff and a recall election imminent, Gov. Walker delivered his second State of the State address last night. In one year in office Gov. Walker has torn our state apart, attacked workers’ rights and dismissed our democracy. As job loss continues to plague Wisconsin, Walker’s actions speak louder than words.

“Gov. Walker lied to the electorate last November, concealing his plans to attack Wisconsin workers and slash funding for local schools and communities. [Last night], his State of the State speech rang hollow to too many Wisconsinites who are living with the everyday realities of the current Wisconsin economy,” said Phil Neuenfeldt, president of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. “Six months of job loss show that Gov. Walker’s policies are not working. It is time to change course, stop rewarding special interest allies at the expense of the working people of Wisconsin, and get Wisconsin back on track.”

“In the last year Gov. Walker has cost Wisconsin job after job.  First, by rejecting high-speed rail initiatives than by enacting a job-killing budget and attacking the rights of Wisconsin workers,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, secretary-treasurer of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. “The people of Wisconsin are smart and see through the rhetoric and half-truths. We look forward to recalling Gov. Walker in the coming months.”

Earlier [yesterday] Wisconsinites throughout out the state gathered in the Senate parlor in the statehouse for the “State of the 99%” to describe what everyday life is really like for ordinary citizens since Gov. Walker took office.

“I depend on BadgerCare to keep my 12-year-old twins healthy,” said Catherine Capellaro, in Madison, who is concerned about the pending cuts leveled at the program. “I’m dismayed that Gov. Walker rewards those already at the top by taking from those who have so little.”

On Jan. 17 more than 1 million signatures to recall Gov. Walker were delivered to the Government Accountability Board. Currently the signatures are in the process of being certified.

The GOP revels in the prospect of creating vast inequality and establishing inverted Socialism where everyone except the Plutarchists share massive debt and hardship caused by 30+ years of deregulation and irrational small government ideology, an unregulated Wall Street, deleterious tax cuts, two wars of choice, and obstructing every effort to restore health to the American economy and ending high unemployment.

Vote right-wing Republicans out of political existence.

This is what you get when voters stay home. Maybe they will turnout en masse for the recall.

I bet most of these people that front these bills have no idea what’s in them. But ask who gave them the most corporation money I bet that they know.

Where are these poll numbers coming from that show Walker leading both Democratic candidates??? ARE THEY CRAZY??? How could this happen??? Is MONEY influencing these polls?? WE MUST BE SO VERY SUSPICIOUS when dealing with crooked, evil, despicable people. The kochroaches and their ilk will stop at nothing to make certain that Walker stays their puppet governor to continue doing their vicious dirty work!

Please forgive the caps. They express emphasis not anger.

EVERY WISCONSiNITE: BE ON THE ALERT. TRUST YOURSELVES AND NO ONE ELSE. REPUBLICANTBAGGERS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR THEIR OUT-OF-STATE DIRTY TACTICS/DIRTY TRICKS, AND REPETITIVE LYING BY BUYING UP HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF MEDIA AIRTIME. FOOLING PEOPLE IS WHAT THEY LIVE FOR, AND WHAT THEY COUNT ON. PROVE ‘EM WRONG, WISCONSIN, GET WALKER OUT!

The protest sign says: Walker! Where are the jobs?”

And Walker says, “The JOBS (plural) are in my governor’s office, and you cannot have one!”

Which is like saying: “Let the unemployed workers make cake in their mother’s kitchens! They won’t have anything better to do when they lose their houses and their marriages after I get finished elminating workers’ rights!”

I heard Walker balanced the budget and created jobs. I heard also that he will win the recall election. I also think he will win just like Daniels did in Indiana. Its the trend. Its now 23 states with the RTW. Why is labor losing when we have Obama in office? I thought his leadership would turn this around.

I hope that this is going to be his last State of the State address. This should be the end of his political career too. He should seek a career in business or lobbying for business.

Scott Walker’s massive recall campaign should serve as a warning for the governor in Michigan and for the governor of Florida who are the servants of Big Business and of the Wealthy.
