‘Downsized’: The Song
![]() |
From Union Communications Services:
Joe Glazer, known by many as labor’s troubadour, had for more than 50 years used his voice and guitar to rally supporters to the union cause, including for this timely tune, “Downsized.”
Before his death in 2006, he had performed in a hundred union halls, on dozens of picket lines and at scores of political and protest rallies and union conventions. He appeared in nearly every state in the union and in 60 countries around the world and recorded more than 25 LP albums, cassettes and CDs of labor and political music.

Joe should be singing in San Francisco where the occupiers are battling police. I mention that this would happen a few months ago. Its terrible to be right all the time.
I agree anthe demonstration and song should be put on TV.
Joe Glazer is not only an excellent musician, but he has an excellent voice and his words are totally accurate. Great work Joe. I really appreciate your song a whole lot.
Actually the link here is not quite right–I tried it and got a clip Woody Guthrie’s “Ludlow Massacre,” which nonetheless gave me grim pause to wonder what might be done to an Occupy gathering down the line.
Was that Arlo Guthrie? My gosh, no wonder I liked it so much. I don’t remember Arlo sounding like that though, but maybe I’m wrong.
And although I was talking to Joe in his memory to his persona, note that Anus-throat had to get a “lick” in and he didn’t even notice that Joe Glazer is no longer with us.
Hey, they changed the song! This was not the original song that was in this blog the first time I heard it.
The voice in the original posting was sounding almost like maybe Kenny Rogers ? I can’t remember the singer’s name from the 1960s, but the original recording in this post was not the Woodie Guthrie version and was uniquely not like Kenny either. And he was good! I’ll bet the first posting was the original Joe Glazer !!!
I checked the internet extensively, and my theory is that there was a copyright infringement problem, so the Joe Glazer version might have been removed, and the Woodie Guthrie version replaces it. BUt I distinctly remember a different “first version” that probably was Joe Glazer.
