Arguments Against Medicare in 1960s the Same as Those Against Health Care Reform

by Mike Hall, Aug 25, 2009

The drive to demonize health care reform isn’t likely to slow down. Testy teabaggers at town halls were just the first wave.

Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey—now a hired gun/corporate lobbyist—and his phony grassroots group FreedomWorks, are planning a march on Washington to “save” grandma and grandpa from death panels. Translation: Armey & Co. are trying to throw a protective shield around the private health insurance industry.

Just yesterday, Michael Steele, and the Republican National Committee he heads, announced a so-called “Seniors Health Care Bill of Rights” to “protect” Medicare and, of course, “save” grandma and grandpa from those so-called death panels—which are not in the bill, never were in the bill and won’t be in any health care reform bill.

RNC Chair Steele Tries to Scare Seniors with the Latest Lie About Health Care Reform

by Mike Hall, Aug 24, 2009

After years of trying to gut Medicare and turn health care for the nation’s seniors over to the private health insurance industry—the same industry that’s done such a fine job for the rest of us—Republicans today announced they will “protect” Medicare with a brand new “Seniors Health Care Bill of Rights.”

Michael Steele, the Republican National Committee chairman, unleashed this latest scam in a desperate attempt to derail health care reform, writing an op-ed in today’s Washington Post that is chock-full of lies and falsehoods about President Obama’s health care reform efforts.

Steele claims health care reform will cut vital Medicare programs, prevent seniors from making their own medical and health decisions, and echoes the rest of the anti-reform litany. (Steele also tried to falsely portray himself as part of the Steelworkers union by setting up a misleading Facebook page. Buy land from this guy in Florida? Think not.)

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has been called a lot of names. Here’s another one for him: cheater.

It’s not surprising Steele and the Republicans are embarrassed about their party. But Steele has hit a new low (insert Munch’s “Scream” here): He’s set up an RNC fundraising page on Facebook made to look like it’s the United Steelworkers union.

The “United STEELE Workers Union” page even features a hard hat with an American flag sticker front and center.

Just curious, Michael: Doesn’t a white hard hat clash with your designer suits?

Out in the grassroots, workers are mighty angry at the thought their health care benefits could be taxed in a health care reform plan.
